grunting 10 month old

dd2 is grunting quietly with each exhale. She has a low grade fever (day 2) and is somewhat clingy and tired. Does it warrant a trip to the GP? DS1 (9) is home sick with a tummy bug and is also running a fever (much higher than baby's) but it is the grunting that worries me. Thanks in advance.

Cadmum i think you should def. see GP. Grunting can be a sign of respiratory distress > Could be nothing but see your gp today i would say. If you cant get an appt. ask if you can speak on the phone and tell him/her about the grunting. They should see you.
Hope its nothing but let us know.

BTW another sign of resp. distress along with grunting is nasal flaring on exhalation and the chest recessing around the sterum area

My 9mo DS grunts too, its horrible. He's had a rattly chest for ages (although its cleared up slightly recently) and i took him to the GP.. they have referred me to the pediatric unit at the local hosp. still waiting though!

Thanks for the replies. I too thought that it was a sign of distress but as I said, she doesn't seem poorly and she does not have flared nostrils or recessing chest. (DS2 was very poorly as a baby and did have both of these symptoms when truly unwell.)

I will ring the GP though as I agree that it is not worth waiting in case it is something serious.
