Any advice for how to get rid of it - had it for nearly a week now and the pain is unbelivable. I feel sick I'm in that much pain.

Tried the sudofed, vicks inhaler, ibuprofen route and no impact at all.

I'm tempted to go to the doctor, but don't want to be told off for wasting his time.

go to the doctor and if he tells you off say "HOW DARE YOU! i am a grown woman in pain who has contriuted to the system and deserves as much time as anyone else. Just because you think it trivial, does by no means mean it is. You have little or no idea of my daily existence and the impact the pain and discomfort has. So if you Please. Impart some Knowledge which can enable me to function properly from day to day. I do not come here lightly with every cough and cold and resent the implication.

you stupid fucker

I suffer, very painful indeed. Def go to the doctor. Last time I had it I phoned NHS 24 and they gave me a list of medicine to take all at one time, felt like a druggie! It did work tho'.

On their own, the drugs didn't work (as they say), but the cocktail seemed to make a difference.

my mum has had this for months now and i had it for ages last year both went to docs and didn't get anything for it just told to sit in a steamy room, do the head overthe bowl inhaling thng and he gave my mum one of those medicine syringe things (like you use for babies) and told her to boil some water and add at little sat then to wait until it was luke warm and then shoot it up her nose

doesn't sound nice i know but she says it helped

Custy, I'm going to the dr about sinusitis in a couple of days. I'll try out your last expletive and see where it gets me

lizbet316 · 10/01/2007 14:33

try a bit of deep relief gel (one with menthol in it) around the bridge of your nose and across the cheek bones
makes the eyes water for a while (keep shut if you can) but it works wonders for me

I had antibiotics last time along with sudofed and that cleared it. Had it when pregnant and just used steam with Olbas oil and it went eventually. Don't blow your nose too hard as it can push snot into sinuses (sorry...). It is so horrible - it's one of those things that you can't imagine how it could be so painful until you actually get it.

Tortington · 10/01/2007 14:55

i'm so full of shit - if my doctor told me off i would just scuttle away and cry!

RubberDuck · 10/01/2007 14:58

I went to the pharmacy with sinusitis just before Christmas - I react badly to anti-Bs so didn't want to go to the docs. They said that as I'd pretty much nothing left to try, did I want to give Weleda Rhinodron nasal spray a go.

It's basically saline with tea tree oil, and I was sceptical but also ready to try anything. About second dose and the pressure was much less. Cleared it up completely within a day and a half. Previously to that nothing had worked, including decongestants and olbas inhalation via a bowl of steaming water.

It's worth giving it a go, anyway

tenbygirl · 10/01/2007 15:10

OK, have an appt for 4pm. Have just tried olbas oil in a bowl of boiling water, its maybe helped a little. But the pressure underneath my eyebrow is still there.

If I was at work and thought I could get away with it I'd be nabbing strong painkillers out the cupboard - the pain is that bad. Never had it before - thought people just meant they had a badly blocked nose when they said they had it.
