Hi

So just back from GP - wonderful Jr Dr diagnosed me and saw through my postpartum lack of sleep as have a 6 month old and those issues and ran some bloods... TSH -whopping 103 and T4 a measly 2. He said he has never seen this extreme.. but he is but young :).

I have private HC, so looking for a consultant in Parkside /South London or the City an Endincrinolgist?

Also on 50 mg of the Levothyroxine daily... do people find they work?

I am a bit shocked and clueless!!! But hopeful i will be better soon!

Did you know you're entitled to free prescriptions?

You've had great advice. I cannot imagine how you've been feeling with a tsh that high. You poor love.

My only advice would be to ask for a few other bits and bobs to be checked. Like pituitary function, parathyroid function, adrenal function and thyroid antibodies.

It can take a long time to get the right dose and you really do need to get to know when you feel thyroid-y. And let that be your guide, not the lab numbers once they get into a more normal range.

Thyroxine needs to be taken without any other stuff, so no calcium (tea with milk for example) for 4 hours either side ideally, but actually that can be hard to manage. Most people take it early in the morning but my mum (who has no thyroid) prefers an early afternoon dose.

Flowers hope that thyroxine kicks in soon!
