DD has really, really, really, sweaty feet...........

It wasn't a problem in nursery days because she only wore shoes the time she was there. Now she's at school she wears shoes all day, every day and her feet sweat like mad.

She has good quality Start Rite shoes, cotton tights fresh daily etc etc.

The problem is not smell but wetness. They are soaking and she feels uncomfortable. Also its hard to get the shoes to dry out before school the next day. Even after just an hour, her tights are so wet the feet are a different colour from the leg and the inside of her shoe.

Its not the shoes because she sweats just as much in trainers, boots, wellies, ballet shoes.......

Does anyone know if the doctor would help? I really don't enjoy trips to the doc and would prefer not to but I'm at a loss of what to do.

No advice but bumping for you!

NorksBride · 09/01/2007 20:11

Wash her feet in the morning and then either use talcum powder (not something everyone wants to use on children) or wipe them with surgical spirit on cotton wool.

Are her tights too thick? (our school tights are 'cotton thermal' ones from M&S). They might be making her feet too hot?

Failing that, it's the GP for you!

frumpygrumpy · 09/01/2007 20:14

Thanks for the pointers Norks. I don't think its the tights (M&S "cool when its hot hot when its cool" ones) because it happens in anything at any time of year.

She even persistently slid out of flip flops last summer, poor wee soul.

I'll try your suggestions, ta.

Here's a link for stinky feet. It suggests it might even be caused by athletes foot.

frumpygrumpy · 09/01/2007 20:16

Hi Califrau, I'm laughing thinking of those sandals walking from town to town, like the littlest Hobbo......

Thanks Norks, I'm off to have a read through. There is no smell at all, just soaking wet puddles.

poor DD frumpy, I think you should take her to see your GP, it could be hyperhidrosis

flutterbee · 09/01/2007 20:29

I would 2nd the suggestion of surgical spirit on her feet. Just wipe the cotton wool all over even between the toes, don't wipe it off and after a while it should reduce the sweating all together.

I would consider doing it before bed as well.

frumpygrumpy · 09/01/2007 20:30

thanks dingdong (lapin). She has had this since she was tiny its only now beginning to be a problem........

thanks flutterbee, I think I have some, will try tomorrow. Any idea how many days before I might see an improvement?

have you tried putting an anti persipirant on her feet? Something like the wonderful Mitchum 'so good it lasts 24 hrs' might work.
