Okay this is a bit gross, but has anyone heard of that thing where by if you don't wash your hair for six weeks it starts to clean itself?

Or is it like one of those urban myths?
My neice has asked me to help her with a science project for school (biology, chemistry something like that where they're testing the effects of chemicals on the body I think ), and has asked me if I would see if it works.
I'm quite inclinded to help her as I'm in maternity leave and therefore it doesn't matter so much if my hair gets ucky, but I was just wondering if anyone had ever done this and if there was anything I specipically needed to do (or not as the case maybe).
Answers on a postcard! Thanks

Sorry read through again and realised I'd mis-read the comment. She's eleven and embarrassed about what people will think who don't know (11 hard enough and its her first year in secondary school). Will talk to her about amending it though.

I'm sure there must be an alternative experiment which would be more fun for a pregnant woman. How about the effect of chocolate intake on the skin?

anyway pregnant women are never used in medical trials so your efforts will be invalid. these things are always done on 18 year old men.

I did this, I have quite dry hair and after 3 weeks it looked fantastic, everyone kept commenting on how healthy my hair looked

It didn't feel nice though, after about 5 weeks I caved in (plus I had to dye it as white roots were coming through!)

Bob Geldof, anyone?

My brother tried this, and believe me, it doesn't work, I lived with him!

This was a rumour started by middle aged single women who enjoy cross stiching and have 8 cats.

funnypeculiar · 09/01/2007 19:11

my bro grew dreadelock & did this. HE said it worked, but as he had dreads full of lumps of metal, fircones & feathers at the time it was difficult to judge...

Countess dracula - I also have very dry hair that should only be washed once a week at the most otherwise it turns to frizz.

emmatomATO · 09/01/2007 19:12

An aquaintance did it and she smelt like an old sheep who'd been out in the rain.

Fillyjonk · 09/01/2007 19:15

Have spoken to neice and am now thinking of having sucker tattoo'd to my forehead - will do it until 14th February ('cause I'd like to be wined and dined if poss) - or until it drives me too mad.
