funny turn this evening - awake sleep paralysis?!!?

So this evening I was unloading the dishwasher, everything quite normal, feeling ok, then I reached up to put a cup in the cupboard and went slightly light headed. Then it all got a bit weird, and bear with, because it's hard to describe. I zoned out and it was like I was locked in my body but I had no control over it, my eyes were wide open, my arm was in the air, and I was stood there for what seemed like an age with my arm in the air not able to move, and I was saying to myself in my head 'you can put your arm down now, go on put it down, carry on with putting stuff away' but I couldn't do it, I couldn't put what I wanted to do in to action. I must have been stood there a good couple minutes before it suddenly passed and I went back to normal...What's that all about?! Any ideas?

I'd call 111 maybe...they might want to get you checked over in case it was a mini stroke

It sounds a bit like how my friend describes her absence seizures. Definitely follow it up with a GP.

I think if you feel ok, then you can wait and see your GP in the morning. It doesn't sound like a stroke to me but i haven't a clue what it is. Migraine can do funny things to folk.

I often zone out and sit staring into space and have to shake myself out of it, usually if im tired.

Ok I'll make an appt to speak with GP about it. I hadn't thought of any of these things I was thinking like some sort of weird conscious feint or something simple like that. Thanks for the advice X

An elderly friend described an incident very like this to me. She'd been trying to put a book on a shelf but couldn't make it happen. She had a serious stroke about a week later. I have no idea if this could be relevant to you.

Could it be something to do with the physical action of looking up ,compressing/pinching something in the cervical region of the spine ?

I've heard that older people with arthritis can have problems when scanning book shelves ,supermarket shelves .

But what you describe ,sort of waking absence ,does sound odd .And scary for you .Hope GP can help .

Footle that sounds like a TIA..transient ischaemia attack/mini stroke.

Please get checked out ASAP OP, hope it isn't that but they are very often warnings of a bigger stroke on its way.

And I did type ischaemic there but my tablet changed it.
