Hi all,

I found out today that I h fibroids. I have 2 of them, they are 30 mm in size. I see my doc Wednseday to discuss things. Has anyone had this. How did you get around this and not have them come back? I am still bleeding after 16. Days. It's not heavy any more but still draining. Also a bit of pelvic pain.

when i had these during menopause i read that nearly all women get them and almost all of them are benign and almost all of them go away on their own. They were very uncomfortable but did go away after a year or two. Do get them checked tho and better not to take hormonal supplements as they cause them to grow. Glad i didn't take up the hysterectomy offer.

I'm in a similar situation to you in that I've had heavy prolonged and painful periods, which ended up with me having a scan and finding out it was caused by fibroids. Doctor has told me to think about what sort of treatment I'd like to go with and gave me some papers to read ???? I have no idea which way to go, which would be best, I'm really confused.

Since my scan and discussion with the gp, I've no period at all, seven weeks later and still no period ! I've gone one extreme to the other. Blood test said I wasn't peri-menopause so who knows what's going on.

I asked a few weeks ago about whether any alternatives would work ie: not medical or hormonal. I was thinking diet, exercise, herbal supplements.

Be interested to see what anyone replies to you.

Didn't get many replies so maybe not that common. Anyway, I see the specialist to discuss surgery options. I don't where one I want yet, but I want it GONE and never to come back.

I suspect lots of women have them and just don't know. I had a 10cm fibroid and only found out when I got pregnant

As regards treatment, my understanding is that it depends where they are - in the uterus wall, outside it or inside the uterus. If inside or outside they can be removed laparoscopically which is a quick recovery time but intramural ones need more invasive surgery to remove and this may not be justified if they're not causing you major problems. For me, it's an intramural fibroid and didn't seem to be causing conception problems so they've left it alone for now. When I'm done having DC they may suggest a hysterectomy.

Mine is a 3 cm one, but it's causing heavy bleeding, pain and also tiredness. There are 2 of them, one on the wall I think.

I sympathise with you there pianolady78, I have three, two in the wall and one just hanging around in the middle the pain they cause is the same as labour pains, and the flooding, clotting is now at least manageable with TA as long as I stay fairly near a loo.

From what I've read, it seems they can return after they've been removed which is not reassuring, and a hysterectomy seem drastic. A coil is out of the question due to the where they are, but taking hormones which I don't strictly need doesn't seem like a good idea.

Now even though I've had the period pain although it was mild, no period this time. Maybe they took the hint and buggered off by themselves

Do your own research .I am simply giving my own experience. The research i did when i had fibroids clearly indicated what i said above. Mine shrank and problem was solved without an operation.

I havery fibroids for 12 years now. Probably they were there before. They were asymptomatic initially but showed up on an MRI. Then heavy periods managed with tranexamic and mefenamic acid. Bit pants but wanted to preserve my fertility. Had a Ddinbych and mirena after which has been great - no bleeding. But I'm seeing more symptoms and getting bigger and bigger so have decided on a hysterectomy this year.

I just had mine removed under general on Monday. I only had one small one that was symptom free but they still wanted to remove it.
