oh my god! poor thing and poor you. i dont know too much about it but it sounds like she is v lucky. how old is she?

Frizbe · 07/01/2007 15:57

{{{{Hugs}}}} sorry she has this, hope she's over it soon, is this the strain that the new jab is for?

lissielou · 07/01/2007 16:00

yes, loads of mags have been campaigning to get it as standard. in lots of cases there are no symptoms. ds has just had his jab.

foundintranslation · 07/01/2007 16:02

poor little one, do hope she recovers well.

No personal experience, but this might be of interest to you, in caseyou haven't seen their site already.

Twiglett · 07/01/2007 16:03

I think it is dangerous to ask for others experiences as they really will not have relevance .. what are the doctors saying .. you caught it early? I am assuming their prognosis is good ... stick with that

don't do internet research on it btw

izzybiz · 07/01/2007 19:27

She is very very lucky.

The outcome is not always that good.

I hope she is better soon.xx

mears · 07/01/2007 19:43

My DS2 had pneumococcal meningitis when he was 6 months old. Thankfully he recovered and is a healthy 17 year old with no residual problems. Your DD will have folow-up until medics are happy and will also have hearing screening. As Twiglett said all cases are individual and your doctor should keep you informed, however it can be comforting to know it is possible to recover unscathed. Agree about not surfing the net - rely on what your doctor says. Hope she recovers soon. DS was on intravenous antibiotics for 10 days and then went home on oral. How old is your DD?

izzybiz · 08/01/2007 17:45

Qop,

How is your Dd?

CountessDracula · 08/01/2007 17:47

oh goodness how scary for you

Hope she is much better xx

tortoise · 08/01/2007 17:53

Hope she is ok now.

queenofpuddings · 09/01/2007 20:17

our little girl is home now, she has to go back every day for intravenous antibiotics and then they will give her another lumbar puncture. She is doing great as this time last week she first fell ill.
I have kept well away from looking at info on internet as not too scare myself at what could have been.

Emzickle · 11/01/2007 09:28

my older sister had it when her kids were tiny - she was very poorly for a while, but she's fully recovered.

Only thing was the back ache when it's cold from where she had a lumber puncture.

Good Luck to you and your DD, with a big get well soon hug x
