I can't take any hormonal methods at all (cause depression ion all the women in my family ) and I'd still like another child (GP would like to doa hysterectomy- I'm only 33 )

fortyplus · 12/01/2007 22:28

So what about Tranexamic Acid? That's not hormonal - it just encourages clotting - you take it when you have your period. It worked wonders for me in the couple of months I was waiting to see the consultant.

PeachyClair · 12/01/2007 22:30

GP didn't mention that! I will go back and ask (although aslong as DS remans stable hopefully ttc in the next year which always gives me a break LOL)

fortyplus · 12/01/2007 22:33

Good luck with that. You just take one as soon as you start to bleed, then 3 a day during your period. I found that I only had to take 3 on a couple of days - then cut it down to 2. And that was for me - I'd been rushing to the loo about every 20 mins some days!

Tranexamic Acid was what she gave me - prescription only. Also - never use Aspirin for period pain relief.

Well there may be a reason it wouldn't suit you, but my GP was very helpful and suggested a few things. If you want more info then Google 'menorrhagia'
