How long does it take to get better? GP put me on Serc tablets which I've been taking for a week but they're not doing anything for me. Can't get back to doctors until next week.

Another one full of sympathy, I had it 8 years ago and it was awful Sad
It was a couple of days for the acute symptoms to pass, then about 4 weeks to feel a lot better again. I have been left with vertigo though, I can't spin or move my head quickly without feeling very dizzy.

Sympathy from me. Flowers

I had it about 10 years ago. It was acute for maybe 12 - 24 hours, then settled down but it was about another three weeks before I felt totally normal again. During that time I constantly felt as though I was on a boat that was rocking regularly on the sea.

I hope you are better soon. It is a horrible sensation.

Honeybeam · 27/03/2016 22:27

I've suffered from it for 3 and half years now. It's got to a stage where the symptoms are manageable but I am under a consultant for it. I hope you feel better soon x

I've been left with balance problems since I had this in January, waiting for a physio referral. It's awful, I feel permanently drunk, and really struggle with concentration and thinking, I regularly forget words, and have to wait till they fall into place Sad. Haven't driven since January as I don't trust my vision (keep seeing things moving out the corners of my eyes, things aren't always where they're supposed to be, then slide back into place), although i haven't had to inform the DVLA so far, just not drive. I have some exercises to do while waiting for the physio referral, things like marching on the spot with my eyes closed (which is surprisingly hard), and walking outside does seem to help, provided the ground isn't too uneven.

That's terrible MyVisions. I've been put on Stemitil and Serc now but my balance is still very bad, walking around like I'm drunk! I've been referred for a scan to see if there's anything wrong with my inner ear so will have to wait for that to see what happens next.

I've been signed off since Monday with severe ear infection and I'm assuming a ruptured eardrum as have pain, discharge, deafness, ringing and awful dizziness.

Prescribed Stemetil because the dizziness was causing nausea. The nausea has eased but still constantly dizzy and can barely move around the house without holding on to something.

I had visions of all being well by the weekend and back to work on Monday. Reading this thread has made me think that's unlikely Sad

Can the Dr give me anything to stop the dizziness? I can tolerate the other symptom.

JaneJeffer · 14/04/2016 10:12

You could try Serc or Stugeron as they are meant to help with diziness. They didn't work for me but seem to work for some people.

Thanks Jane. Are they on prescription or over the counter?

JaneJeffer · 14/04/2016 11:49

Stugeron available OTC, Serc is prescription only as far as I know.
