Pain in kidney

I have a pain in my back which I've had for the last few weeks.

It feels like it's where my left kidney is. However, I have no other signs of a kidney infection. No fever, no pain urinating, no blood in urine etc.

However, this afternoon I have convinced myself I have cancer of the kidney.

Please tell me there is every likelihood it could be a pulled muscle or I just need to drink more water.

Should I get it checked out by the GP? I'm nervous because I've been to the GP recently about my anxiety issues which I'm getting counselling for.

A classic case of just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with me.

Advice please.

Please don't worry, as you say it's more likely to be muscle related. But as it's gone on for a while it would be worth getting it checked. I'd recommend just going in calmly and explaining the symptoms, and let them diagnose, but perhaps mention that you're worried and would like to rule out cancer. Most people get a bit anxious about health issues at the best of times so don't feel that you are overreacting.

Could be a kidney stone? I've had these - they are not always excrutiating, rush-me-to-hospital agony, sometimes it's a more slow burning pain - it depends whereabouts in the kidney the stone is (so my GP told me). You wouldn't necessarily have any symptoms other than pain with a kidney stone. Actually, the same could be true with an infection - even if there is blood in your urine, that may well not be visible with the naked eye.
There are lots of possible causes, all treatable. Go to your GP, and in the mean time stop assuming the worst! Thanks

I have an appointment with the GP this afternoon.

I agree, it could be a stone. Or muscular. I have never felt as ill as I did with a kindey infection, so I think it is unlikely to be that if you feel well, although I suppose you could have an infection brewing. The GP may send you for a scan if he suspects a stone.

I am back.

It's a chest infection in my lower lungs. I have also had a cough for a few weeks but as it wasn't overly phlegmy I thought it was on its way out Blush
