my ds2 (age 2.5) is generally more stocky than ds1 and i know its normal to have quite a round belly... but his seems to be quite tight and distended (not sure if thats the right word) most of the time. he doesnt wake up that way; its not so swollen or tight first thing when he wakes up, but gets that way throughout the day. by bathtime, its really hard-feeling.
he doesnt complain of a sore tum, doesnt seem to notice anything...
just have a niggly feeling there may be something really obvious and easy to change to do with this...
tbh, im not really worried enough to go to all the palaver of going to the GP - unless someone in reply to this has a reason why it may be worth it...

thanks for reading anyway

is he going to the loo alright?

Sounds similar to what my ds had. TUrned out to be a food intolerence.

Saturn74 · 05/01/2007 13:24

DS2 used to be similar when he was little. He has allergies to wheat and dairy, but never had any bowel problems - apart from a swollen tummy - so it took a long time for us to realise.
Might be worth having a look at his diet?

tribpot · 05/01/2007 13:31

I was thinking food intolerance as well, creating a lot of trapped wind maybe?

NappiesGalore · 05/01/2007 13:33

DG - now you mention it, he is usually very dry... hard round pellets rather than a proper poo. usually that is. i assumed i just wasnt getting him to drink enough during the day...

i had thought about intolerences... i spose i should get one of those york laboratories test things done on him.

best way to start looking for intolerences is to keep a food diary and see if any link.

Or to take them off one type of food for a set amount of time and see if it makes any difference.

Constipation can cause it, but constipation can be the result of a food intollerence, if they seem to be drinking enough.

Check too that there's nothing creeping into diet that you know he shouldn't have already. you mentioned allergies. It's amazing how they sneak in.
