How do I know If its thrush or not??

Hi,

Apart from going to the gp or nurse( which I haven't decided if I'm going to do yet) how do I know for sure?

My dd had antibiotics just before xmas (I'm bf her) and since xmas I've been sore down below and have had more discharge than normal. This is white and NOT lumpy. I've always read that when you have thrush the discharge looks like cottage cheese, you are itchy and smelly.
I know you can pass thrush to your child if you're bf can it work the other way???.

To make me more inclined to think its thrush, at the docs today for my dd ( about her ears) I mentioned that she had a red mark/rash on her neck. She said it could be baby excema or a type of thrush infection. She gave me some cream for her. Daktacort. It says on the leaflet that it reduces redness and itching and that it destroys fungi and some bacteria.

Can any one help please?
Also if I do go to the doctors do you think she'd want to look there or would I just tell her my symptoms. I hate things like this as I know all the doctors quite well. Obviously I go for smears etc. and the nurse who does it has known my family forever .

Thrush symptoms . As you don't mention any itching or soreness it's likely it's not thrush. If you're not convinced maybe treat it as thrush. If it goes away - yes it was thrush. If it doesn't then it's something else(Probably just increased normal discharge).

Thrush is increadibly itchy rather than sore. I've never had to be examined with it, just got given the cream but that could be because my dr. is slack. I've never had the cottage cheese effect so don't think it's a guarantee that you haven't got it. If you're worried buy a tube of canasten from the chemist but if it doesn't clear up after a couple of days I think you'll have to go to the dr. sorry.

Hi, Thanks for replying,
I did say it has been sore but not itchy.
Mmmm what shall I do? Is caneston safe whilst breast feeding?

Just had another look at the link and I think it is thrush. It mentioned burning and soreness and white discharge, didn't mention lumpy. It also mentioned Antibiotics.
It said I should see GP if I've not had it before.

Thanks for helping.
