Vaginal Lumps

Very embarrassed to ask and sorry if it's TMI, but here goes... I noticed that I have several fleshy lumps inside by the entrance. They are not painful. Since the birth of DS (7m) tampons didn't seem to stay in as if something is in the way. I had a look with a hand mirror and found the lumps. After the birth I had to have lots of membrane removed, so I wonder if it's from that or just from the birth itself. Is it normal? Or anything scary?

could it be scar tissue?

justchangingforthisthread · 03/01/2007 20:57

Forgot to mention I had stitches with both my pregnancies.

Lumps? Erm, did you get stitched? I looked at my bits in a mirror once and could see where id been sew back together, small lumpy bits included where the flesh has been in/out/squeezed between the threads...ewwwww and I havent even name changed!!!!
The tampax not staying in isnt right though. Mine does.
Has your pelvic floor gone?

HuwEdwards · 03/01/2007 20:59

oh I would think the tissue there is still in the process of settling down. Unless you're in pain, i would just mention it to the HV next time you see her.

NotQuiteCockney · 03/01/2007 21:05

How big are the lumps? What part of the vagina are they on? Near the scars? Elsewhere?

Some remnants of the hymen around the entrance are normal, from what I know. I don't know that you'd describe them as lumps though.

I'd be a bit worried that they might be warts, depending on size etc. You can test for warts by dabbing a tiny bit of white vinegar on the warts. Warts turn pasty white when this happens (it doesn't hurt, even though it sounds like it would!).

You'd probably need someone's help to do the dabbing and checking.

justchangingforthisthread · 03/01/2007 21:07

My pelvic floor seems normal. I have no pain from them.

Thinking about it, I don't think warts can be big enough to prevent a tampon from going in.

Um, I've got to ask - do the lumps pose problems for intercourse?

charliecat · 03/01/2007 21:15

Google vagina wall on images with safe search off. Click on the second piccy. Like that?
Mine isnt like that. But is that what your on about?

justchangingforthisthread · 03/01/2007 21:15

I've looked up warts (pictures on google ewww) and it's not like those at all.
They are all on the inside, near the entrance. They are not bigger than a baked bean. They are soft and fleshy. No problems with intercourse or actually inserting tampons as such, they seem to not fit as well or as far as they used to IYSWIM.

charliecat, that looks very similar, yes.

Um, genital warts can totally look innocuous.

Ok, I just googled. Ugh ugh ugh.

Those are the really impressive genital warts. There are ones that are a lot less obvious, to put it mildly!

I am knowledgeable on warts, because I lived with someone who had them, and neither of us noticed! He went to the doc about some other thing that he thought was wrong with his genitals (which was totally fine), and the doc pointed out the rather mild bumpiness on his foreskin ... and then he had to have a lot of treatment.

I don't think warts are the most likely explanation, btw, just one worth considering and eliminating.

justchangingforthisthread · 03/01/2007 21:19

though, looking at it again, a lot more pronounced than that.

charliecat · 03/01/2007 21:20

this one? Be warned. large and graphic!

NotQuiteCockney · 03/01/2007 21:20

I think vaginas are naturally pretty varied. (Some women's labia minora are longer than their labia majora. For example.)

NotQuiteCockney · 03/01/2007 21:21

Are the lumps symmetrial, more or less? I think if they are, they're probably just normal. Maybe you didn't notice before?

justchangingforthisthread · 03/01/2007 21:27

NQC, it looks different from before I gave birth to DS, but i wonder if the procedure afterwards or the stitches could have done this.

NotQuiteCockney · 03/01/2007 21:29

Right, but maybe the opening is more, ahem, open? Or slightly changed as a result of the labour, so the lumps are more visible, rather than being hidden as they were before?

airy · 03/01/2007 21:31

I noticed something like this after having dd, it was a lump just inside, but quite large kind of extra bit coming out of the wall ifykwim?
I had a gynae investigation for something completely unrelated and he noticed it and told me what it was called, and useless thing I am can't for the life of me remember it now! but he did say it was down to childbirth and absolutely nothing to worry about.
I had a natural birth and no stitches.

hth

alexw · 03/01/2007 21:33

Can't be bothered to change name... I have scar tissue following birth of dd 2 years ago - looks like lump about1cm inside vagina. Sex is still uncomfortable because of it coupled with opening being stitched too tight...mmmm. So to answer your query it could be due to stitches...

charliecat · 03/01/2007 21:35

When is your next smear? You could asdk whether everything looks as it should be whilst you are there.

justchangingforthisthread · 03/01/2007 21:40

My last smear was last May, so not due one for a few years yet. I thought of going see the nurse about it. I'm sure it is just scar tissue or it's all a bit more stretched. Probably how my body is post-DS! I am a big worrywort and hypochondriac though!

Thank you all so much.

I had it checked out by the nurse and she said they were like skin tags and nothing to worry about.
