Should i have my Wisdom Tooth out? I mean surgically removed?

Its been hurting for about 6 months, i've had a couple of courses of anti biotics in that time. i'm due to see the dentist tomorrow but wanted to hear from anyone who has had their wisdom tooth surgically removed - when i went last time they did x-rays and said if it didnt come through properly that is what would happen because of the way it is growing. It's irritating my inside cheek and affecting how i talk, its swollen and painful

How long are waiting lists, how bad is the pain, how long does it take to heal........lots of questions........sorry!!

TIA

LMG, of you have sedation or general you will need someone (a responsible adult, over 18)to take you home. With sedation, they will hvae to stay with you for a few hours & GA you shouldn't be alone for 24 hours.

I had a week off work when I had 4 out, mainly because I couldn't eat (as a result of GA, was just sick all the time) & so was tired all the time. (Try explaining that to your boss when he's a dentist)

It is a personal thing. I was dentally fine after a few days, just weak from no food.

lots of luck to all, keep in mind that it can't be worse than being in a developing country where no one is speaking your language, it takes 45 mins to remove each tooth and there's no resources for general anasthetic!! Sorry, won't go there. Need help from anyone who knows- I can't find a nhs dentist in the brighton area..... I've recieved my card for free perscriptions but can't find a dentist, there's one at the hospital booked up until 2008!!! I've chipped two teeth since being pregnant and my gums bleed daily. My midwife recommended the hospital one.....

I had all four out under GA when I was 18 - I ate a sandwich about two hours later - it was fine (the op - well, and the sandwich iirc!). The bottom two were growing horizontally towards the front of my jaw, so they had to come out!

I am sorry that others of you had such terrible experiences though
