Contraception - should I bother

I have just had DS2 (3 weeks ago) so am due my post natale check at the GP in 3 weeks. I know one question he'll ak is what contraception I'll use.

Having tried for 2 years to get Pg and managed it 3 times (2 m/c's) I know when my 'fertile' times are.

I really dont want to go back on the pill (stopped taking it in 2000) or have an injection or anything 'inserted, and the patch looks awful. I also dont want a hystoraectomy. DH is 100% clear about not having the snip and neither of us like condoms.

Most of the time we prefer the withdrawal method - and we know this is not perfect.

If I did fall PG again - which I dont belive I will it would not be the end of the world - but things would be very tight for a while.

What would you do?

If you don't mind having another baby in 9 months time then you don't need to bother! Otherwise erm yes I would bother. You've not mentioned having any particular grudge against using a diaphragm

and you presumably don't want ten children so you will have to deal with the issue of contraception at some point, so might as well be now as never!

Its entirely up to you. If you have been trying without success to have a baby and have finally had one, surely if you get pg again it would be a blessing.

But on the other hand, you couldnt continue like this forever or you may end up with a huge brood of kids.

Have you thought about maybe having the implant or something like that as it lasts 3 years?

If you did fall pg and have another one would you use contraception after that?

I suppose the other possibility would be to get very methodical about the natural family planning type of stuff, that can work well if you have a lot of knowledge about it.

Why would anyone use a hysterectomy as contraception?

Do you mean tubal ligation procedure?

I'd use the w/d method.

We are NOT a fertile couple, either.

I do have a diaphragm, but sometimes we just wing it and go w/drawal.

It's worked for us for about a year now.

withdrawl worked for us for 8 years But when we did try, ds1 was conceived very quickly (2 goes!) ds2 quite quickly. And we had a moment of doubt the other week, which has reinforced that neither of us want more, and it really would be terrible for us. He's getting the snip, but its a 6-12 month wait once he's seen the hosp in Feb, and as yet we havent decided what to do in the meantime. I'm not allowed on the pill, allergic to latex. So that cuts out a couple of choices for us!

I think it can definitely work if you're not a fertile couple, which we aren't.

I also know when my fertile times are and usually use the diaphragm then.

But although it get a bad rap, you'd be surprised at the number of people who use it successfully.
