Any advice/experience - Spontaneous bruise???

Hi, thumbprint sized painless "bruise" has appeared as if from nowhere on my face tonight. Phoned out-of-hours Gp as had a momentary panic about toxic shock syndrome/meningitis which he said not to worry about as I was feeling well. But was told to make appt with gp for blood test as need to check for bleeding disorder/platelets. Anyone any advice/experience, thanks

Don't have any experience myself, but this will bump it anyway.

What I do know is bruises are caused by burst blood vessels under the skin (I think anyway) so that you get one when hit for example because the impact breaks the blood vessels.

So if you are getting bruises (or a bruise) without impact then it may show that you have a bleeding disorder/platelets. It doesn't necessarily mean its something terrible, could be something that is easily put right or controlled.

Don't know if that's what you wanted to know. Hopefully someone will come along who's had similar.

Thanks theArmadillo , trying to remain calm but no experience of this before - definitely didn't get bruise as a result of impact and it's not tender or sore.

Have you been takin ibuprofen for anything? As I get spontaneous bruising when I take ibuprofen, it's apparently a very rare side effect. Totally harmless but I freaked out big time to find 3 fist sized bruises on my torso after taking ibuprofen for 2 days during my period. Hope you find out what it is and it's nothing bad.

Thanks nannyk. I did take some ibuprofen recently but it was maybe 4-5 days before "bruise" appeared so not sure if it's related but good to know. Have gp appt in the morning.
