Worst case scenario bell's Palsy?

kid · 01/01/2007 22:09

I had a muscle spasm in my neck and that caused a pins and needles type numbness on my face.

it could be lost of things and it could be nothing. it's worth asking a GP to check it out though. A friend of mine has had a numb cheek for years. she had an MRI and there was nothing in particular causing it.

jampots · 01/01/2007 22:31

i would be inclined to say possibly due to tension/stress Yorkie. I sometimes feel one side of my face is heavier than the other and somehow feels less sensationt hat the other side. Tis usually at a time of stress or extreme tiredness. How are you sleeping (not) right now?

SaggarClaus · 01/01/2007 22:43

Yorkie - I get something similar. It's either slightly numb or burning pins and needles( a bit like sunburn but no visible redness)It usually extends out towards my temple. GP said mine was trigeminal neuralgia - it seems worse when I'm stressed and can also be triggered by the cold. He gave me something for it (can't remember what it's called now) which I don't take as it was quite strong stuff. It usually settles with ibuprofen.

i went to see my gp last week about the pains in my head/face/nose and she said it was very likely trigeminal neuralgia. She prescribe an anti-convulsant (!) and valium for when my neck goes into spasm

SaggarClaus · 01/01/2007 23:04

I think that's what I was prescribed jampots - it's probably still in the back of the cupboard!

Sorry that you're not sleeping Yorkie. Christmas and New year must be so hard. I so wish that things were different.

Christmas must have been really difficult. will you have a bit of time to yourself in the New Year? fresh air, exercise, relaxation, indulgent treats, time to read and write - I know they're all astoundingly trivial in the big scheme of things, but they might make a difference sleep-wise?

good to know you're on the case . you need to look after yourself.

I get it too - same area, pins and needles. I have assumed it's stress related as I can feel it start up when I'm my stress levels increase.
