GP worthy? Ankle sprain

Hi, just after advice. Also posted in exercise as did it whilst running and not resting original injury. I think I have a sprained ankle, on 5th day of pain,
although it is much better than over weekend and swelling starting to go down, and redness has turned to bruising today. I have had pins and needles for hours all over foot and up back of leg, if this continues tomorrow is this worthy of a GP appointment? Or do I have to suck it up?! Thanks!

Did you do ice, elevation and anti-inflammatory meds when you first had the injury? (I ask, because if you do that you are likely to have fewer symptoms by day 5). Did you strap it up?

Personally I would head for a walk in centre that has Xray facilities first thing in the morning. Google your nearest one and get there as soon as it opens.

Iced, rested as much as possible with 6 year old and taking ibuprofen. Checked out local walk in ventre facilities and no X-Ray. Thanks for taking time to reply.

Not strapped up as was painful and didn't want to compress although I realise this was probably wrong. Thanks again.

I am a veteran of sprained ankles! Rest, rest, rest! Elevate and ice too. Ibuprofen. It takes 2-3 weeks to stop hurting and can take much longer to regain full strength.

Thanks **bikeskirun. Have you experience of the accompanying pins and needles/coldness in foot?

You might have to venture a bit further afield for a walk in with Xray - it is worth looking though. I have spent many an hour in our local one with various DC with various fractures. I just find the whole issue about trying (and failing) to get a GP appointment only to eventually be told to go to the nearest walk in centre with Xray facilities. Now I just cut out the middle man

It sounds as if it will have to be Xrayed TBH.

Pins and needles plus cold foot definitely needs checking out.

Thank you. Just wasn't sure if being dramatic, luckily have rarely had to use GP services or similar and don't want to waste anyone's time. Will try get seen tomorrow somewhere.

I've never had pins and needles or numbness, which does suggest something more than a "simple" sprain.

suzannecaravaggio · 01/03/2016 00:02

when I've sprained mine the acute pain has gone off in a day or two but the swelling and stiffness has taken a long time (several weeks) to go completely

I've never had numbness or bruising

Thanks for advice guys, seen GP and nothing to worry about, just takes a while for nerves to settle again. The pins and needles were driving me crazy last night, well still are and I was home alone as DP on nights. Thanks Smile
