dd3 has been being sick all night. and the other end as well. isnt keeping even water down, cant get meds into her, has been stripped and sponged, but temp isnt going down easily. she is currently perched on the sofa next to me, sipping a cup of squash with medised in it (my attempt at getting some fluid and medised into her). she seems ok, bit tired, but isnt crying strangly, no rashes, skin isnt dried out or blotchy. eyes are fine, she is responsive.

she was fine till around 8pm last night.

just keeping offering the liquids, in my experience theydon't even worry after 24 hours in a 3 year old.. and if no food is offfered, it is usualy cured like that. Flat coake was a suggestion made by GP to me.

Why not call nhs direct?. They should know after how many hours you should be worried. I personally would start to worry after 24 hours if she is really not keeping anything down. For adults dehydration starts after 2-3 days so for children I'd say a day was enough. With luck though she will start feeling better today and will hopefully get a good night's rest to help her recover.

I hope she feels better soon!

i have done the questionairre thing on nhs direct. as she hasnt had mroe than 3 loose motions yet, they arent too concerned. she has had a small breastfeed as well, and kept it down so far.

I don't know if we just had a duff doctor but my DS was ill for six days once when he was about 15 months, with vomiting and hiddeous diarrhoea and Dr wasn't too concerned except about the risk of dehydration. Just said viruses can last that long and suggested dioralite (sp?) DS did get better but it seemed like forever. Poor you though - and poor her. I hope it doesn't last that long.

I would keep offering more breastfeeds as she is most likely to keep that down then anyhting else.

Ds has recently all but stopped breastfeeding (he is 2.1 yrs old) and when he occasionally does now there isn't enough milk to keep him interested. I'm Ok with it but have to admit it proved most useful in these types of bug things. The fact that you are breastfeeding is great - she is more likely to take that than dioralyte (have you ever tasted that? - yuk) and it wll keep her hydrated even if she only keeps a bit down.

LIZS · 01/01/2007 10:32

Just give small sips of clear fluid - water, herbal tea, flat lemonade, dioralyte etc - plus breastfeeds. Personally would n't worry for at least 24 hours unless there are other symptoms such as high fever or dehydration.

i am offering every 30mins when she is awake, and not letting ehr take too much at a time. she is now sleeping and temp is down.
