Who has paid for their children to have the chicken pox jab?? I'm thinking about it. Recently a friends daughter had it and she had them on her eyes etc etc and it was awful so am thinking of getting him the jab

Yes we are having our DD vaccinated. She has had one jab and will have another one soon.

Our reasons were that if we ever move to the USA as a family as we hope to, (I am American born, though I grew up in the UK), then DD would need to either have had the illness or had the jab in order to attend school or nursery there. Apart from that, we just thought that, as it is a preventable illness with potentially serious (though very rare) side effects, we thought we should take steps to prevent it. I definitely don't think anything negative of people who choose not to do it though as it is normally a mild illness and like bumbley I only know of one person who had any serious complications from it.

Waning immunity is definitely a concern, though having to have a booster later on is not a terrible ordeal. Our private GP seemed to think a booster would not be necessary later on, but I don't know why she was so sure about that seeing as nobody really knows how long immunity lasts Hmm. Will ask her at the next appointment. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I may have misunderstood what she told me. I did read that the vaccine is less effective in adults too, but my understand was that in the case that DD's immunity did wane in adulthood and she had to have a booster jab, but then she went on to contract the illness anyway, she would catch a milder form of it.

I have flirted with the idea but I'm cautious of vaccines . My son has had all the mainstream ones but I'm not sure about messing around with their immune system . My son has special needs although his immune system of good . I'm afraid once you mess with it it's never quite the same again. Just my opinion Confused

I've had my 2 done. Mainly because I get recurring shingles, and it is agonising. I wanted to make sure they never have to suffer with that.
