Is damp in a baby's room really bad?

Today we found out that under the bed in dd's room (she sleeps in a cot in the same room) the floorboard, underlay and carpet was soaking wet and there was mould growing on the skirting board. Is it really bad that she has been sleeping in there for a couple of months (the problem must have been going on for about that we think)?

I know the spores from some moulds are not very nice if you inhale them. May only be a problem if you disturb them though (I'm no expert)
Obviosly I'd say - find the cause & rectify as soon as poss

Thanks Whizz. We've pulled back the carpet to let it dry out and cleaned up all the mould so hopefully spores shouldn't be a problem. the door is wide open too and she is as far away from the damp as possible. Unfortunately there is nowhere else we can put her though

You can get some anti mould stuff I think that you can spray to stop it coming back - but be careful that its child friendly !
Can you see what caused it though - where was the damp coming from ?

Yes, do fix it asap. I grew up in a mouldy house, by the time I was 18 I was allergic to mould, and you just dont want to go there, I promise you.
aching limbs, mental confusion, unable to sleep, permanent tiredness etc

Is it caused by condensation? do you need more ventilation in the house generally?

ground floor or upstairs?

I have to say, i don't like the sound of the soaking wet carpet ; that would suggest either serious rising damp to me, or water getting in through the brickwork from broken guttering/ flashing.

Get a builder round asap

no expert but not good; bad for respiratory etc.. like others say, fix asap

thanks for all the replies. The problem seems to be caused from new double glazing, too much condescation and the door shut at night. We pulled back the carpet and it's almost dry this morning.
