my dd 4 (5 in jan) has two wobbly lower incisors? is this early to be losing teeth. also, almost over night she seems to have her first permanent molars! I thought the teeth all happened around 6 years old. is this normal?

I thought it was at about 5 but my dd1 is 7 in march and hasn't had a single wobble. since mentioning this to various people I have heard that there is a WIDE age range that they can lose their teeth and also some beleive that it has to do with whether they GOT their first teeth late or early

dd1 was 9 months before she got her first tooth so maybe there is some truth in that

dd got her first teeth at 6 months and had all teeth except molars by 18 month (incl molars by 2)

well that sounds like she was very quick to get the first lot so I guess it might follow that she would be quick to get the second lot

I know at least 3 girls in dd1's class who started to lose their teeth when they were 4 so I don't think it's abnormal at all

i've got not money left for the tooth fairy following christmas. and dd confidently tells me that she knows the tooth fairy brings money! we have never even had a discussion about said fairy!

my ds1 was late getting his teeth and is late in losing them he is 8 now and has only just started to lose them. 2 weeks ago his tooth fell out just before bed and as i dindt have any money i told him it was too late in the evening for the tooth fairy to know. so we put it in a glass in the cuboard to stay safe. anyway, the next morning dp gave ds1 a drink and didnt notice the tooth in there and so ds1 drank it without knowing. i had to go fing a tooth that i had kept and give i to him!! he never knew!!

My dd got her first two adult teeth at 4.5 - I was a bit worried about abnormal growth. I went to the dentists to check all was well and they said it was unusual but not that uncommon and not to worry. She's now 5.3 and hasn't had any more come out - 5 year olds in her class are now starting to catch up. So don't worry.

The adult molars generally come in at 6 years. Hence the name 6 year molars. This is usually the point when you start to get wobbles too. BUT it can vary massively. It isn't unusual for teeth to come in a year or two early, in the wrong sequence, fall out early etc, any more than it is if the come in late or leave late.

I don't think the adult teeth coming thru has any bearing on when the baby teeth came thru. It's all about growth & when the body feels ready for these things to happen.

Deciduos (baby) teeth start developing in eutro (SP) at around 7 weeks, permenant teeth at around 20 weeks. The teeth are developing at a fast rate and the bigger they get, they start to come thru the gum, as there is just nowhere for them to go.

All completely natural IME.

a friends ds lost his at about the same age as your dd and my ds lost his first lower one about a month after he turned 5, then lost the second one a few days later.

sleepysooz · 28/12/2006 13:07

My DS1 lost all his teeth in his 5th year, early tooth maker, he is only 10 now and has a brace!

Pinotmum · 28/12/2006 13:13

Dd lost her front bottom teeth at 4.6 yo and is now 6.2 yo and has 4 adult teeth at the bottom (front) and 2 adult teeth at the top (front) and has just lost another tooth (one next to the top front one). The teeth seem big 'uns and I think she'll need a brace as the ones that are growing seem to be loosening the ones beside them iyswim. Jaws springs to mind!
