In praise of Celery

I response to WWW's request on Amanda's thread, I'm posting my celery diet to see if it might kick off some January detoxing.

In May this year, I decided I had become way too lardy. I did the following things and by August had lost two and a half stone, which I have kept off. I've gone from an 18 to a 12 in clothes.

  1. Make up a salad with celery, spring onion, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and mix it with a spoonful of Hellman's or half fat creme fraiche. Eat a bowl of this once a day as a main meal.
  1. Stop taking milk in tea/coffee. In fact, give up caffeine and drink herbal/fruit tea which means you are taking in water without the diuretic, dehydrating element in tea/coffee
  1. Use soya milk on cereals, butter instead of spread.
  1. Keep a pack of lean ham in the fridge - eat a slice every now and then.
  1. Eat water biscuits instead of crisps/nuts/etc. With cream cheese if you like.
  1. Walk for at least 30 mins a day
  1. Eat Jaffa cakes instead of any other kind of chocolate or sweets.

This looks like a fat free diet, but the fat consumed is 'good' - mayonnaise/butter/cream cheese - I just eat less of it.

I'm not boasting, but this has really worked for me and I am still getting positive comments from people who haven't seen me for a while. And I haven't given up drinking at all!

Oh and I eat only steamed chicken or fish, with steamed vegetables if I have a hot meal.

It is incredibly dull, but worth it.

So..... is that all you eat even now? Or have you gone back to a more... shall we say... varied diet?

Sobernoel · 27/12/2006 20:30

If I go out for dinner I eat 'normally'. I eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, and I make casseroles with lots of carrots, lentils, cauliflower and onions. This way of eating isn't electrifying, that's true, but it doen't leave me hungry. And I never ate cake or puddings anyway.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.... wonder if I could survive it for a wee while. I love my roast chicken you see. Can't imagine steaming it.

Can do lentils and veg soups though. I suppose I could do the casseroles too. Do you put meat in them?

Just trying to lose my "pregnant looking" tummy!

Sobernoel · 27/12/2006 20:53

I don't put meat in the casseroles, I like knowing that there is no fat in them at all.

I haven't lost my baby pouch, though! My arms, legs and hips are much slimmer, I have a visible inny-outy waistline and I have a jawline. But I still have my market traders' money belt. I'm not prepared to give up wine and start doing sit ups yet.

If only it were a simple baby pouch... sigh......

Someone asked me why my weight was so localised! I could've cried!

Sit ups......... hmmmmmmmmmmmm... can I be arsed?

Sobernoel · 27/12/2006 21:00

No!

No indeed!

And with that in mind... I'm going to sit on the couch and watch telly with a lovely large glass of red!

Thanks for sharing. I may try and give it a go. Could do with losing a dress size or 3!

Oh and well done you for your loss!
