Cradle c(r)ap - ok, own up - who picks at it ???

My ds (12 wks) has had cradle cap since he was 5 wks (which extended to his forehead, eyebrows). Have been putting various oils on these areas and over the weeks have picked/lifted off the scales with (shock horror) my tweezers (i was extra extra gentle when using them though before someone questions my sanity). Am now feeling very bad and guilty now (having read all the threads on cradle cap) that i might have infected his scalp or worse still hindered/damaged his hair growth as some of the scales came away with small clumps of hair (though my ds didn't have much hair to start with) and left his scalp looking red and a bit shiny/glistening. The cradle cap has come back on his scalp though not as thick and crusty as originally and it doesn't smell anywhere near as bad as it originally did. Just wanted to hear back from other 'pickers' of scalps to see if their babies hair grew back, how long it took to get rid of the cradle cap and should it just be left alone? The general consensus is that it will go away on its own but when you're in the midst of it all it seems hard to believe. And harder still to imagine that such scaly stuck on crusts could drop off on their own without any help. I feel really bad that i couldn't exercise any restraint to leave it alone and kept on picking at it for weeks with tweezers no less!!!

I did pick once or twice, but generally left it alone. He has very little now at almost 11mo and what he does have is hidden by his hair. One of my antenatal class picked at her ds' head and he lost most of his hair and it was horrid as a result. I am sure the best thing is to just leave it alone. If it gets really bad, why not take ds along to the doctor? I know my sister had really bad cradle cap and my mother had some special ointment to put on it to help...

It does grow back and so does the cradle cap! I have 'assisted' the cradle cap falling off my LO's head but just by roughing it gently with my finger tips and yes it does go red which is a bit worrying because it looks pretty sore. I would try and leave it alone in future, temping as it looks I do resist the urge these days. Coconut oil is good for softening the scalph and then use a baby brush to lift the loose scales.

I rub in (really rub it in) grapeseed oil, leave overnight, rub a brush over it to loosen the scales then wash with neals yard baby shampoo.

It keeps it at bay for about a fortnight then same again when you see it start to come back. Picking it deffo lifts their hair off.
