Thread worm treatment whilst breastfeeding.....

Hope someone can advise....DD1 and DP have been treated with Ovex suspension today but it says not to take if breastfeeding. DD2 is 9 months so cannot take either.
I reckon if I go to the docs they will just prescribe the same stuff but not sure whether to risk it as cannot face a trip to the surgery. BFN has no info on the drugline page. Active ingredient is mebendazole.

Thanks in advance any HP types....

Logically, I suspect this drug doesn't even enter your bloodstream, as it's just doing things in your digestive tract. And this PDF from the WHO says it's fine. (Listed as mebendazole.)

There is another medication that you can take called Pripsen. It is licenced for use with babies over 3 months.

Generally if a medication is OK for a baby then it should be OK with breastfeeding.

The manufactors who make Pripsen advise that you express and discard breastmilk for up to 8 hours from when you taken the dose.

I hope that your baby can go 8 hours without a breastfeed.

Thanks for the quick response NQT! Yes, thats what I was thinking and also a bit through milk would surely not do DD2 any harm as she may well have the worms anyway. I'll check out that link and get my 5ml down before bed....

What a useful pdf - I'll keep a copy for future ref. I have a friend who is an ex GP who I usually bother about these things but missed his Xmas drinks as was too knackered so felt rude ringing.

Frances5 - I have terrible memories of Pripsen from my childhood! Think I will just go with the Ovex but thanks for the post. Oh but for an 8 hour gap between night feeds.....
