feel breathless even after fever gone? I'm a week in and still have an occasional cough, but feel like I'm breathing through a sponge which makes me panicky - which in turn doesn't help Confused

If I had a secondary chest infection I'd be coughing green gunk and have a proper fever, no?

I was just about to post a thread about how ill and I feel and found this one, I'm a week in and completely exhausted by it - haven't felt this ill in years.

Haven't taken a day off yet but am seriously considering it tomorrow, does anyone know if it's worth going to the GP for something stronger than over the counter medication, or do I just need to suck it up and get through it?

hold if it's that bad, you need to take time off. Or you end up a whole load sicker, for longer.

You don't need medicine - you need your bed!

Roonier Thanks, I haven't had a day off sick in this job since I started 8 months ago so I'll take tomorrow off.

I recommend sucking it up and getting plenty of rest. Nothing the doctor can do to speed it up.

Day 16 here, we went down to the new shed to paint it inside, and once we were done, which only took a couple of hours, we are both fit to drop. And we are seasoned allotmenteers.

I haven't got any actual workshops until wednesday so I am spending the next two days on trying to get rid of my cough so I can speak properly again.

It's pure evil this virus. Gives you the odd hour or so where you feel ok enough to be thoroughly ashamed of the state your house has become while dh has taken over. Spend 45 minutes cleaning the bathroom then WHOOMPH chills, aches in every muscle and joint, breathless and omg the cough.
Seriously considering seeing gp to rule out chest infection/pneumonia.
I've not had the super sore throat like a lot of you [touches wood]

Found this thread whilst waiting in the walk in today for the very same thing. Bacterial chest infection and given antibiotics. Had 3 week long 'cold' over Christmas and then this started last week. Feel dreadful Sad

So sorry for all the people with this virus. It's a bastard. Just going in to week 6 now and still coughing like a 60-a-day smoker. Have an inhaler and spacer now from Dr and it helps a little but not at 2am when I wake up coughing up my internal organs! I'm so behind with everything, house is a tip, dogs have not had a decent walk for weeks and I still don't feel I can say with confidence that it's on its way out. Sad

I haven't read the whole thread but just wanted to add some of you may actually have whooping cough. I'm awaiting blood results to check for this as I have all the classic signs. But even if the whoop isn't present a cough that goes on for weeks has a high chance of being whooping cough and adults immunity from the vaccine has often worn off. If you get antibiotics within the first 3 weeks it will stop you being contagious to other people. My gp was quick off the mark to take blood and give anti-b's as I work with a vulnerable group of people so I have to stay away while they take effect. So it's worth going to the gp if it goes on for more than a couple of weeks!

Calpol we all had an upset stomach after a week or so of being ill, I wonder if its somehow part of the virus!
I think we are almost back to normal now after more than a fortnight. Still got a cough but no where near as bad as we have been. Get well soon everyone.
