Does anyone have any experience of scarlet fever?

What are the chances of me and the DC's getting it?

Am supposed to be going up to stay in MIL's over Christmas and having Christmas dinner with SIL and family, including two children.

Should I still go?

TIA

Isn't scarletina the same thing !

foxinsocks · 21/12/2006 14:41

ds had scarlet fever (supposedly...we went a bit late to the doctor and the rash had started peeling already)

none of us got it - not dd (notorious for getting anything going), not me (who kissed him to sleep when he was ill!) and not dh!

I probably wouldn't cancel anything just on the thought that you might get it unless any of your inlaws have a condition that causes problems with their immune system

StrawberrySnowflakes · 21/12/2006 15:43

?was told scarletina was more to do with the rash than the strep throat, saying that she aslo diagnosed tonsilitus at the same time?

expatinscotland · 21/12/2006 15:43

You may have already had it as a child.

LRWG · 21/12/2006 16:04

Whatever you decide I hope that Christmas turns out well for you!!

LRWG · 23/12/2006 10:24

Any sign of the dreaded fever? I hope not!

SaggarClaus · 23/12/2006 12:15

My ds had it Jones but none of the others got it. Hope you are as lucky!

JonesTheSteam · 23/12/2006 15:51

Hi - no sign of it at all. SIL still wants us to come.

Have the house to myself at the moment (bliss!!!) - have to wrap 100's of presents and clean before I leave for MIL's tomorrow am.

DH and the children have already gone up.

Thanks for all your replies. Hope you all have a lovely Christmas.

DS3 has developed a rash today.

Lots of other symptoms of scarlet fever too.

Buggeration!

Anyone know what I should de being so massivley PG??

JonesTheSteam · 23/12/2006 22:26

From NHS direct:-

There is no evidence to suggest that catching scarlet fever when you are pregnant will put your baby at risk. As always, see your GP or call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 if you need further advice or suspect your child may have scarlet fever.

Scarlet fever is not common in adults, but to avoid catching scarlet fever while you are pregnant, and so avoid getting the symptoms like high temperature and sore throat, try to keep away from any children that you know have scarlet fever.
