Help - bad mummy alert, what shall I do

This morning DP was getting DS ready for nursery and went into the kitchen to get something - when he went back in DS (8.5 months) had mud round his mouth and something in his mouth, DP tried to get it out but it was too late (he said it looked like a piece of wood) DS gagged as it went down but then seemed ok.

I thought it would be fine as if it was small enought go down it should be ok (guiltily admitting here that I was in a big rush getting to work and didnt give it too much thought)

The nursery have just been on to say he has been quite upset today, woke up from his nap with his knees drawn up and seeming like he was in pain and had had a nasty nappy - no sign of the wood though.

Shall I get him checked out?

Ive rung nhs direct and predictably they have said to take him to get checked over - just with him vomiting and that becuase its wood it may splinter or be sharp....

best be off - at least it will put my mind at rest tho im positive he is just fine

This may sound silly but perhaps the mud made him sick and not the wood. I say this because of a muddy knife cutting a burger (don't ask......)experience, but it resulted in the two people who shared the burger throwing up. Everyone else was fine and eating same food - just didn't use same knife!
Saying that, I'd have him checked too. Peace of mind is important for us worrying mums.

How did it go last night Becca?

Hope the little man is okay now.

Beccarollover · 21/05/2004 09:08

Hi

I took him to a and e to get checked and he is fine - he is still a bit sickly which could well be the mud or a tummy bug - we just have to keep an eye on him until he passes it!

He was unsettled last night but eventually zonked out in our bed and seemed pretty cheerful this morning.

The worst thing of all was the guilt and now I feel very silly crying in front of my all male uncaring colleagues!

Becca - think of what would turn them into a quivering wreck and then congratulate yourself for being so brave !!!! Glad your ds is okay!!!!

Glad to hear the little one is ok, and don't worry about your male colleagues - they probably didn't notice, you know what men are like!

An on crappy home computer so won't be online long, just wanted to check all was ok.
