According to NHS Direct, I should ring 999!

But i haven't.

I posted ages ago under 'Broken Bum Embarassment' re: a bit of a post birth pile issue. Well, i still haven't been to the doctor (mostly as it's seemed much better) but in the last few days, going to the loo has been like some kind of ordeal, and there has been lots of blood- when i say lots, i mean it's spattered all over the inside of the loo, and the toilet paper is soaked. I've had tummy pains too, but i get IBS so i put it down to that.

I'm fairly sure that the ambulance service will be slightly annoyed if i ring 999 about my arse!

Will try to get to doctors at some point instead

If they have told you to ring an ambulance then i would do that hun, it may feel a bit dramatic (not your typical ambulance call)but they wouldnt advise it if they didnt think it necessary.

They wont be annoyed, if you feel embarrassed could you tale yourself to a&E of call a cab?

BudaBauble · 20/12/2006 05:54

When did you give birth?

Docs / hosp asap I would say - definitely today anyway.

stoppinattwo · 20/12/2006 05:55

It wont go away unless you get it treated, and if you get an infection up there that will only make matters worse - do something about it today, will be holiday time soon and you wont get an appointment, and the hospitals will be overrun with all kinds of festive incidents

IMHO, NHS Direct are rank. They ask questions, type it into their computer, and deliver the computer's answer. My 8 year old could do that. I was even once asked by my GP not to call them, but to call her if I had any worries.

You don't want that worry over Christmas. 'Phone your practise today and ask for either your or the duty doctor to call you back. She/he will tell you if you need to go and see them.

It's horrible having someone peer up your quim/bum, but I really think you need to, if only for your own peace of mind.

Make that phone call this morning, and good luck!!

I shall check MN later to see if you've done it!!

xxx

I will ring tomorrow. Promise.

Sort it out quickly, DG. If it gets even worse you'll have difficulty getting treatment quickly over the next couple of weeks, so don't let it get any worse.

It may be embarassing, but the earlier it's treated the easier it will be to treat, and the sooner it will all be over (and therefore the fewer embrassaments).

I imagine that NHSD told you to call an ambulance because they thought you might be haemorraging (is it bright red blood?), and a haemorrage from the bum is just as dangerous as from anywhere else in the body. Not meaning to scare you!

Tortington · 20/12/2006 18:04

tek yersel of to casualty.

danceswithreindeer · 20/12/2006 18:05

I think tomorrow is too slow missy. Get yourself to casualty now please.

Quootiepie · 20/12/2006 18:07

Best bet is out of hours GP. They can refer you onto A & E if nessecary. I think you'll be last in the queue with piles... but if GP refers you, I think you get straight in.

Quootiepie · 20/12/2006 18:07

wow, read the other posts... didnt realise you could get bum hemmorages (I know thats an SP) Go to A & E... better safe than sorry xxx

whatwouldjesusdo · 20/12/2006 18:09

or if you mention that you were advised to call 999. Id be off to a&e, I think.

that much blood is definitely worth going to see someone now, detentiongirl

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 20/12/2006 18:21

DG, even if you choose not to go to A&E, if you vomit or the tummy pains get worse, call 999. Seriously.

bundle · 20/12/2006 18:29

blood = not good, they really won't be bothered whether it's coming from your arse or your elbow.

lulumama · 20/12/2006 18:31

definitely.....could have rupture/ prolapse/ heamorrhage etc...if they say 999...you go to the hospital pronto !!

even if it turns out to be piles....better than being a worse situation over xmas!

Mercy · 20/12/2006 18:38

Are you sure you can get an appointment with your GP tomorrow? tbh I wouldn't wait more than 24 hours without consulting someone.

Let us know how you get on.

PeachyIsNowAChristmasFruit · 20/12/2006 18:39

A few years ago NHSD called 999 on me, I was disgusted- thought itb was a cough (i'd been marshalling a legal cruise day before). Anyway, I ended up really ill and unable to talk for three weeks.

SO LISTEN TO THEM

liquidclocks · 20/12/2006 18:40

Ok - if it was your sister/best friend would you get them to go to a&e? yes? Then go yourself...

Can I just say here (as a former nurse) that you should get yourself to A and E.

Piles/Haemarrhoids are essentially varicose veins (but in yer arse!) and if they rupture, you could loose a lot of blood in a short space of time.

Please don't take this risk and get yourself there now.

bundle · 20/12/2006 19:05

also GP will (probably) not know much about this kind of condition. A&E can refer you directly to gastroenterologist or another specialist

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 20/12/2006 19:12

Get yourself seen pronto. Bowels have been known to depart the body and it is extremely serious.

tribpot · 20/12/2006 19:26

Please do call your Out of Hours GP and explain what NHS Direct said - I can see what you mean about calling 999 given it's hours later and you're still okay, but it needs sorting out.

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 22/12/2006 14:08

DG - how are you, what did you do?
