Never had a smear test

I'm 30 and never have, I'm over weight and my friend who is a similar size had one years ago and she was lectured about her weight by the nurse who did it. I'm so self conscious anyway I can't bear the thought of being undressed and vulnerable in front of so,some who will go on to berate me for my weight. I know I'm overweight and trying to alter this... The thought of being judged by someone who sees me so exposed is terrifying.the years since ,y friend told me about her experience have just made me feel worse!

YY to FormidableMrsC

toads, to suggest a woman does not need a smear is just ludicrous and simply dangerous. It's a life saving 2 minute procedure.

All woman need a smear, whether they actually have it or not is another matter.

No - not all women need a smear.

But they are entitled to have one and to be responsible for looking after their own health and to have this respected.

They should not be put off going for one by adding lots of other stuff, that may look good for statistics but is not helpful to that person. By doing that, the person is missing the chance for a cervical smear and visual check (which picks up other things you would not know about otherwise, like erosions), the practice is not getting the extra statistics to tick its boxes, and it has not helped this person with any weight issues.

OP, I am absolutely huge - and it has never been mentioned! In fact, last time I went, I made some comment about my wooly legs, and the nurse just rolled her eyes at me Grin

If you are too embarrassed to go to your GP, you can also go to your local walk-in sexual health clinic - you don't need an appointment, and it takes 2 minutes. Wear a skirt or you can cover yourself with the paper they provie - you won't be exposed at all.

If this is the only thing putting you off, please don't let it.

Threads like these make me worried.

I know I should have a smear test but I just can't. I've already had three attempts and they all ended up in disaster.

Sometimes I think I should just forget about having one but then I hear a story about someone not having the test and then dying from cervical cancer.

What if there's something wrong with me right now? What if I have cervical cancer right now as I type but because I can't have a test I won't know until it's too late?
