Went to gp today for and my blood pressure was high 139/89, she took it twice, said she wasn't very happy with it and that I have to have it checked again after xmas.

Apparently the fuzzy head I have had for a week or so may be due to the blood pressure.

I am shocked, I am 28 not 68.

I don't eat any fruit at the mo. It's not that I don't like it, just always seem to eat someyhing else instead.

Exercise, now that will be a challenge as I didn't even exercise at school if I could help it.

I do walk to school and back twice a day, is that enough lol.

Lemon tart the bottom figure over 100 is severly high bp and anything over 85 is usually investigated

Meant to add that my mum and dad both have high bp, but didn't get it until their late 50's.

I had elevated BP also - before I had dd ... but looking back this was probably due to my 'lifestyle' used to drink a bit too much - eat the wrong things etc. When preggers it was elevated too so had to be monitored incase of pre-eclampsia etc ,,, but now it seems ok , although i do get it checked every 6 months just in case!

Mine has been higher than yours, Greensleeves; certainly the bottom figure is sometimes higher. I just think it's daft to take the pills if cutting out coffee and eating fruit brings it down anyway, IYSWIM. My GP does get all menacing about it, but I do take radical steps to bring it down if it's high, eg massage, masses of garlic, and atm I'm on a semi-fast to detox. I DO worry in the middle of the night (that'll help, not) but it motivates me to sort myself out.

I just wonder if it'll stay down for life if I really get my act together and achieve ideal weight, do yoga, keep going to gym and eat well. I hope so.

Today mine is 140/90; last week it was 156/102, so that illustrates what you can do in a week. The nurse taking mine said her dh brought his down through diet and lifestyle measures alone; and best of all it has stayed down long-term. For me to do it long term, I reckon I need to really break my caffeine addiction, once and for all.

Mimi2022 · 19/10/2021 21:39

Did the things you did bring it down? Sorry for bringing up such an old topic.

If it’s genetic then it’s not something you are doing wrong. But it is just borderline high, good idea to watch it though. You can try to help it with lifestyle but eventually I had to go on medication.

Didn’t realise the original thread was from 2006! Wonder how the OP got on with her high bp?
