sorry that header was shocking

dd had high temp and rash thursday, gave calpol..it went within hour.
Yesterday we held our christmas party, dd was saying she was freezing, wouldnt play and wanted to be held, got her home temp was 39, and rash was back all over her middle.
over night temp went down but rash remained?..woke this morning, still rash the same, temp fine..so off on normal day keeping eye on rash..went ot friends tonight for half hour, dd very grumpy, got home temp sky high, rash now totally covering her body, face feet.
already rang prime care thid morn, told viral infection, keep and eye, rang them back tonight told me she could go in but wouldnt be till 10.40pm(she's 3 years old! and this morn they said theyd get her seen straight away iff i felt i had to ring back?!)
gave her medised, laid her on sofa all dressed ready to take her later on and she was so tired and tetchy..temp went right down, but rash still everywhere?

its like a red mottled efect and feels awful and bumpy/lumy to touch, she says shes freezing and shivering one minute but is red hot, then she says she's too warm??
shes asleep in bed now, dont want to wake her at 10.30 if shes settled as good nights sleep may help if it is viral, but dont want to leave incase its not..help!!!!

oh and dont know if it was cos i was putting on calomine tonight?..but she kept saying her arms hurt?(around the joint of elbow??)

If you are really worried, there is only one thing for it - A&E really. Sorry, know it's late on Sunday evening, but if I was worried enough to post on here, I would be there IYKWIM. Sorry not to be more help.

Nemoinapeartree · 17/12/2006 21:29

agree if worried then straight to A+E or a walk in centre. I know its a nightmare but get help just in case.

UCM · 17/12/2006 21:30

Forgot to add my DS also 3 is running a horrendous temp at the moment but no rash. I used to have fits when I was little, so I am watching carefully. If it doesn't go down within half an hour of 10 mls of calpol, I would take him. It's gone up high twice in the last 24 hours and he is alright in hisself.

Nemoinapeartree · 17/12/2006 21:31

menat to add it is probably 99% that it is viral but that 1% isnt worth risk

WigWamBam · 17/12/2006 21:35

Dd had a mottled rash and aching joints when she had slapped cheek - is your dd's face red?

StrawberrySnowflakes · 17/12/2006 21:46

not red as such, just rashy red, shes fast asleep, temp gone right down and rash more pink than red now

I've posted on your other thread strab - is it a sandpapery rash?

UCM · 17/12/2006 21:52

Glad the temp has gone down. DS has had a sort of heat rash before with temps but it was gone as soon as it came IYKWIM. I didnt' sleep a wink last night as was worrying about his temp all night.

I find this bit of parenting quite hard really. I never call out a doctor as I always think that if they are that bad, they need hosp anyway. Most Dr's speak on phone and tell you to take them anyway. It's definitely a minefield this one.xx

StrawberrySnowflakes · 17/12/2006 21:52

no, not rough ITWYM?, smooth but bobbly?!

not sure what to suggest but NHS Direct website might be more useful than google NHS Direct Rash

Glad party went OK by the way.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 17/12/2006 21:55

..thanks!..was a breeze compared to this!

Satrwberry just go through the no section if it keeps coming up with call the number so you can get an idea of things that it wont be!!!

StrawberrySnowflakes · 17/12/2006 21:58

thankyou for that, if i say temp is 38 or above it tells me to ring them,, but if i say not(as it isnt at min) they say hives????

OP posts:
MerrilyTooBuzzi · 17/12/2006 22:01

If her temp is still high ring them.

MerrilyTooBuzzi · 17/12/2006 22:11

Not sure what else to suggest, you have to do what your instincts tell you. Do you have an A&E close by if her temp goes up again?

StrawberrySnowflakes · 18/12/2006 08:39

didnt take her to hosp doc as she was sound asleep.
have been up all night making sure shes ok, her temp went way down(?!!)dont know what that suggests, but she wasnt 'cold' at least her body wasnt and she wasnt shivering?..been very thirsty all night and gave medised(paracetamol and piriton) through night.
still got rash this morn but no high temp.
got emergency app at own doc at 10am.
just rang dd's teacher(nursery) and straight away she said scaret fever??!!!..said it is doing the rounds?

Hi Strawberry

If Scarlet Fever is going around I would ring your dr before you take her, they may want to you to go into a separate waiting area (not sure how contagious it is)

Hope she is feeling better soon - my dd had a horrendous rash and temp a few weeks ago and it was viral. She's fine now (well actually she has a stinky cold but it's unrelated!!)

StrawberrySnowflakes · 18/12/2006 08:44

danceswithreindeer - hi, i personally(hoping!) its viral too, think everyone has an opinion on rash's and to my knowledge, no one at dd's school has had scarlet fever..have read symtoms on net and she doesnt have the sore throat or white spots in throat???..bet youll all be intersted to know what it is now

OP posts:
StrawberrySnowflakes · 18/12/2006 08:47

everything but the throat?!

danceswithreindeer · 18/12/2006 08:51

Oooh, poor little thing! Let us know what the verdict is from the dr!

MerrilyTooBuzzi · 18/12/2006 09:13

Good luck today. Sounds as if something is going round.

My dd had Pityriasis Rosea a viral infection with a rash.
Mistaken by GPs as exzema, chickenpox and a few others.

I was surprisded at Chipox as shed had it before but you can get a second mild dose.

The rash lasted approx 6 months and after the last spots went her little back still has marks. She was not unwell at the time although a little rind down, but she just didn't like the spots.

We diagnosed thanks to google after we noticed a single, isolated patch (the "herald patch") which was the start of it the rash came later.

Dermatologist diagnosed it as Pityriasis Rosea after it had almost gone and much worrying had been done by all.

MerrilyTooBuzzi · 18/12/2006 09:14

rind
