What's caused DH to lose some vision in his eye?

Just a normal day. DH gets up, starts making breakfast. Comes back I to the room saying the vision in his right eye has gone funny. He couldn't see his right hand when he stretched it out in front of him.

We whisked him to hospital and he had a ct scan and an eye exam and they haven't been able to determine what's caused it. The doctor didn't see any signs of a tumour or a bleed in the brain.

His speech was not slurred and his limbs were ok.

So, they've kept him in and will give him an MRI tomorrow.

Up to me leaving at 8 pm he hadn't got his vision back. He's just texted now to say he thinks it's a bit better.

I'm so worried.

Ds1 loses peripheral vision when he has a migraine, and doesn't have any pain, just the vision loss.

It could be something like this, but it's good that he's having a MRI tomorrow so that anything worrying can be ruled out.

DD had a problem with the vision on one eye. It turned out to be the herpes virus in the back of the eye. The problem is that the eye specialists won't be at the hospital over the weekend so they will have a look tomorrow. DD's problem was dealt with quickly by using an anti viral cream for her eye.

I hope it is something as easily treatable as that. I know you must be very worried, but it sounds like your husband is in good hands.

A friend temporarily lost most of her peripheral vision and and it was diagnosed as a migraine. Has never happened to her again as far as i know.

I don't want to alarm you but a friend's MS started with her losing vision in one eye. I think it's called optic neuritis.

DH doesn't suffer from migraines and he's not diabetic.

I do like the idea of an infection in this ocular nerve. He said he thought he had a cold coming on and suffers with sinusitis.

Occular migraines don't usually involve pain like normal migraines. Mine only ever effect right eye and usually triggered by low blood sugar, sinus infections or just tiredness.

i've had visual disturbance when very stressed, is there any chance of that?

Mine was blurry vision due to raised cortisol levels and extreme stress. I thought I was going blind and it was very distressing but I was ok.

I also heard about some syndrome or other where people hallucinate visually on occasion, I can't recall what it is though.

My mum lost some vision in her eye and it turned out she had a detached retina. Did he see a proper eye doc? Can't remember the name, begins with an 'O' when she went to A&E and the retina problem wasn't spotted with eye exam and they told her to come back the next day to see the specialist, apparently they don't work at weekends which is when it happened. The specialist spotted it straight away and she had to have it operated on immediately.

I have quite poor vision in my left eye only if I'm hungover, very tired or dehydrated.

Could be venous occlusion. My DH had an arterial clot in his eye and lost most of his vision in that eye but DH said IT was preceded by fireworks in his eye which meant his rods and cones died. He's adjusting and is on medication to reduce clots generally. As he has vision that's good.news. He's in the right place

I think he saw a proper eye doc but I'm tempted to take him to the next city where there is a stand alone eye hospital

Your stories have given me hope. He gets really bad sinusitis. Letss hope it's infection.

I was going to say detached retina. They can just detach for no real reason.

I had sudden blurry vision once. It was strange - a blood vessel had started expanding on the pigmented layer behing the retina. It stayed blurry for months but just faded away and was ok in the end.

The docs said it was not a cause for concern in itself but could hapoen in short sighted people like me.

Of gosh! I'm not sure if he's short sighted or not. He does wear glasses.

He went to hospital without them so I left him my spare pair of readers so he can see his phone.

He's just texted to say his sight is improving but not quite right yet.

This happened to my dad and after several tests he was found to have type 2 diabetes, have they tested for this Dowser?

He's just texted to say he's had MRI, it was a stroke.

My son collecting him from hospital so will know more later.

Not the worst case scenario but one I was hoping it wasn't going to be.

He's hOme now, tired and been given clodiprogel. It appears he's had a stroke previously.

Wish I'd been there to talk to the consultant. I have no idea why it happened. I don't want to nag at him.

He's not very good at asking questions

Not sure. He has a review but I'm not sure when that is.

He was so tired yesterday after only 4 hours sleep and most of the day at hospital I've been fairly gentle with him.

He's still sleeping now at 10 am and we've been in bed since at 11-30 pm.

Gave him a hug in bed before we settled to sleep and my hand brushed one of those pieces of plastic that hold the ECG in place. Well I must be so overwrought I freaked out. Then I started to laugh when I realised my stupidity, then I started to cry big heaving sobs. I push such a lot down and I think the dam burst.

I remember thinking that he needs to let go of his feelings because he's being very stoical. He's having difficulty seeing, reading and he cannot drive. All are having a huge impact on his life right now.

Anyway. Going to make him a cup of tea.

Naturally, I know this could have been a lot worse and I'm grateful for what hasn't happened.
