When do you worry or go to the doctor?

Ds2 has a chesty cold. He was seen by the gp on Tuesday. Last night he had 38C and I gave him a tiny dose of Calpol. He's off his feeds, and sleeps most of the time, with only one or two brief 'alert' stretches. Should I worry?

Go with your gut instincts - if you think something is wrong (which I think you do seeing as you posted) then phone NHS DIrect or go to your local A&E. It's probably nothing - my DS2 had a similar thing when he was 4 weeks old. We ended up spending 3 nights in hospital and they couldn't find anything. He was as right as rain after a few days. They like to be cautious with babies.
To be on the safe side, I'd follow it up with the doc or hospital.

I'd insist on a GP appointment for tomorrow.

I think you should be concerned . Is he worse than when he was seen by gp ?Complications from a simple cold virus in under 1's are very common at this time of year. He needs to feed to be able to fight it and keep hydrated , and sleeping is a way of conserving energy. How is his breathing? Any wheeziness and I'd suggest he needs to be seen asap. Can you call NHS Direct for advice ?

To my mind it's just a cold. But, in converstaion with other mums recently, I realised that I've been perhaps a bit too laid-back about fever with my children, and maybe haven't taken it as seriously as I should (they were talking about febrile convulsions that their LOs had had). So maybe at this age a cold isn't 'just a cold' but something to be taken more seriously? I don't know, hence my question about fever.

I would be concerned tbh - def see a doctor first thing tomorrow.
Actually, I think you should phone nhs direct and ask for advice.
