knocked front teeth

DS (nearly 4) knocked his front teeth - one is at about 45 degrees pointing backwards - the other just looks a bit wobbly. Went to A&E because the oncall doctor told us their would be an orthodontic dr there - when we got there we waited for hours and then they said see your dentist. .

He has bitten his bottom lip which is badly swollen and he is dribbling continually.

2 questions -

  1. how do we get food or drink into him - he won't swallow anything - can't drink with a straw, cries if we try and get him to use a cup.
  1. What will happen to his teeth ? Will the be able to straighten them or will they take it/them out ?

Aw - poor little mite! Sorry to hear you had such an ordeal at A&E.

If he's in pain, he probably doesn't feel much like eating. I would offer him soft food every now and again. Stuff like icecream. Can you get him to take some calpol?

When my sister did the same thing, as a small child (think she was 2 1/2), the teeth fell out eventually on their own. I wouldn't have thought they'd remove them unless there was no other option.

thanks. He is asleep now - I think he was really shocked by the whole thing. The only thing he is taking at the moment is calpol - hopefully we can get some water in him later - he was dribbling a huge amount before he went to sleep.

Yeah, shocks like that tend to send them to sleep. Hopefully he'll feel more with it when he wakes up.

I really feel for you both, its not going to be an easy few days! Does he like things like rice pudding or angel delight - stuff that'll go down easily without chewing?
