Colonoscopy - sedation needed/nobody to support

Am due for colonoscopy v soon. Terrified, find hospitals scary as have MH issues and just shitloads on my plate atm. I think they should do this under local anesthetic/epidural tbh! But only offer sedation and entonox.

Apparently if I go for sedation, I need someone to meet me at the hospital and watch me for 24hrs! I don't have anyone (yes, I know that's pathetic and sad but my life is shite right now).

I don't have DC so that's fine, but I just don't know what to do. Will I be ok and it's just to cover themselves? I don't know how I'll cope after a night of no sleep due to pooing all night with the stuff to clear you out! I don't want to be alone. Worried I will break don in tears in the carpark before I can get a taxi. Am I able to postpone it? Is there any alternative?

Sorry to post again, just not really got anywhere to turn atm

Hi Yes I had entonox and found it completely ineffective for me however I didn't have much so prob just didn't take enough to have an effect. the procedure was however not uncomfortable except for getting around one corner

I'm sorry that you're feeling so bad about this. I had one yesterday and it wasn't as bad as I had feared. I found the staff really respectfull and helpful which heed relax me. For the procedure I opted for sedition hoping to feel woozy and quote out of it. I felt quite alert and would say that it didn't have an effect In retrospect I think it must had an effect as I was in there for over an hour and it certainly didn't feel like that. They checked several times to make sure someone was picking me up.
Like you it was the prep I was dreaming the most. Set up camp in my room and nothing happened until 12 hrs after the first sachet! I wasn't up all night!

Liquid diet was doable. Just drink plenty of liquids, water, black tea, clear soups, OXO cubes -jelly and boiled sweets for treats!!

Anyhow sorry for rambling. It's not the nicest procedure but not as horrific as we can build up in our minds.

Hope you manage to sort something out.

I think the fasting thing shouldn't be too hard. You know you can eat afterwards and all the liquid will probably fill you up and stop you thinking about food. Hope it goes well for you OP.

Oh my love, please don't worry about it.

I have to have it done soon (also for endometriosis). I've had it before. It's fine.

I also suffer from low blood sugar and was really worried about not eating from 9am the day before. But you can have clear fluids like orange squash and you can eat jelly. I bought loads and loads of jelly, only got through half of it!!

The hardest thing was drinking the bowel prep - it's not very nice. Keep it as cold as possible, I put ice cubes in it, it takes the taste away. Then use a straw to drink it, so that it doesn't hit your tastebuds. Then have another drink to hand to chase it down - I had ginger beer, which really helped.

Then settle in for the night near the loo - I bought myself some lovely aloe vera toilet paper, and sudocrem to make sure my poor bottom wasn't too sore! It was all over by bedtime, I slept fine.

The actual procedure was absolutely fine - I didn't have sedation, and I don't plan on having it next time. It didn't hurt, and the consultant and nurses were all totally lovely.

Please don't let it get you down, and don't worry it's really not as bad as it sounds Flowers
