My life is being ruined by migraine or cluster head ache. Triptans work but I could easily use a months supply in a week. Amatriptaline worked at first to prevent them but I put on a stone in weight and kept falling asleep in the day. They are def worse around period time but not always. I am at my wits end. Normal painkillers don't touch them and I frequently end up in tears with the pain. Has anyone found a cure that they want to share. I can't identify any food triggers. I'm no more stressed than normal. I sleep well. If one takes hold and I don't take a sumatriptan in time I could be 16 hrs at least of pain and I swallow so many different tablets I could overdose bit I'm desperate. I had some success with soluble asprin but Again not always. Help please

Yes TMG can be the cause of some people migraine. That's a problem with the jaw, unfortunately it can also be a bit of a chicken and egg situation. That the migraines cause the tigress in the jaw and not the whole cause, while it helped me to some extent it centrally was a cure all.

Although a reduction in migraines is certainly something to get excited about Bigbad. It's unlikely to be the total cause and still possible you have hormal migraines at other times.

Hi strawberry,

I suffer from hemiplegic migraines so were I know it's completely different to cluster migraines the treatment to reduce the migraines is similar (except I can't take Triptans)

I have tried nortripyline - took the edge off but didn't really work, change to propranolol (slow release form) but after going up to 180mg my heart rate went to plot, I'm now on topiramate and these although not stopped the migraines have drastically reduced them.

I currently have a flare of the migraine and was at my doctor yesterday and they have prescribed 900mg of asprin up to 4 times a day (highly don't advice this without doctor knowing 3600mg a day!!!) this is only short term though and need to go back in two days if this doesn't make the migraine budge.

There is treatment out there Hun it just takes time to find to right treatment for you, if you have any questions feel free to pm me as I know exactly what you are going through and how depressing this can be!

Many thanks for your comments MigGril.

I mention the jaw pain here: Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD): for the benefit of others who may be in a similar position.

In all these years, no doctor suggested my jaw might be the issue. The connection wasn't obvious to me because the jaw pain was insignificant in comparison with the Migraine.

It isn't a cure-all but someone reading and suffering with migraine might be looking for their trigger and not consider this as a possibility.

Magnesium oil spray works for me, I don't know why but definitely since I started using it its cut my migraines right down, I used to be out for days with migraines.

Yes it's defiantly worth looking at and it can sometimes be the case that the migraines are causing the jaw pain and giving you more migraines. So dealing with it can reduce your migraines.

But talk to most experts in this field and I mean the real series ones and they are now going down the road of believing that looking at triggers for people with chronic migraines isn't often very helpful. They will treat will preventative, restrict triptain use to max 2 a week some even less and no more painkillers 3x a week for anything.

MigGril · 26/01/2016 22:10

AhhhhAbaby while triptains can't always be given to people with hemiplegic migraine it's not a total ban on them. It totally depends on your symptoms. You can't take them during the aura phase anyway your only supposed to take them when the pain starts. But I do know a couple of people in our Facebook group who's consultants have given them triptains.

I'm sure I'm my migraines are heading in that direction as I stated get weakness in my right arm with them last year. I already get numbness on the right side of my face as it is.

My husband suffers chronic migraines, for the last 8 years solid ) he has tried every proventitive tablet known to man and nothing worked the only pain killers that work for him are voltarol suppositries but they play havoc with his stomach the next day.I also have that in injection form for him incase they dont work it does happen sometimes. He has tried botox for a little over a year and while they worked it only lasted on him about 2 weeks and you can only have the done every 3 months. having said that they do work differently on everyone some it might not work some may need it done twice only to get rid of the migraines etc i do know someone else who it worked for and she only has to go back for a top up once ayear so its worth trying and they get it done( 31 injections )very very quickly. the only side effect he had from it was he couldnt move his eye brows.
