I HAVE GEOGRAPHIC TONGUE!!!

My tongue is not about to fall off, I have not poisoned my liver from drinking (I was OnAHealthKick......), I do not have a vairety of fatal illnesses that I have convinced myself of over the past few months!!!

My mum was chatting to me today saying she read something to do with map tongue or something and she had it when younger.....she just texted me a link with pics! And it is the one!!

No treatment, not infectious, not related to any medical condition!!!

I am sooooooo pleased.
Have had blood tests and get results next week - but i will take the info to the docs!

It sounds ridiculous but I am crying now as I am so pleased!

Sorry

I have never heard of geographic tongue, but surely there's a poem in there somewhere! That's wonderful news for you popsy. Glad that you haven't damaged your liver!

ponygirl · 18/05/2004 22:48

Popsycal, that is truly bizarre! But I hope you're celebrating with a large drink, after having popped some antihistamines, of course.

Lisa78 · 18/05/2004 22:48

I rather thought you had a graphic tongue Pops, but if you say so
Am really pleased for you - breath out now

I think geographic tongue quite common. i think this week's case notes (radio 4, 4.30 this afternoon) is on oral medicine

Fio2 · 19/05/2004 15:06

I haver a geographic tongue too!!!!!!!!

popsycal · 19/05/2004 19:20

i have been so much more upbeat today!
Even though I haven't got my blood tests back, I know that this is what I have - and it would take me a lot to disuade me from the many fatal illnesses I was convinced i had!

Even if bloods come up with somthing i at least know what i have!

Hey popsycal! Im in your club too! Funnily enough my staory is about as entertainin. My SIL told me i had oral thrush and i ws mortfied, took about three bottles of this horrid pink yuk and still no better... a trip to my G.P and she told me the same. Geographical tounge. If it flares up use mouth wash, the anitbacterial one, the horrid listerine is great, other wise i found mine went away when i went swimming in the sea, Salt water? So Im so glad you have one too!

popsycal · 19/05/2004 20:48

OMG - mine went away last time when i went in a floatation tank - full of epsom salts!
How weird!

I have it too--got it during second pregnancy & have had it now 2 years. Went through all the worries you describe. Even gp didn't know what it was and sent me on to a specialist who promptly diagnosed it. My dentist said he sees it only once in a blue moon, yet popsycal's article suggests it's fairly common.

Had you been worrying about this for some time? Was there an earlier thread on this? If I'd seen it, I might have reassured you, popscal.

popsycal · 19/05/2004 21:07

since just before xmas on and off but mainly on!

i have mentioned sore tongue but only realised yesterday when i persuaded my mam to google for me! i was too scared to do it
she had something simlar years ago and was rabbiting on about map tongue (lol!)
