what do you do if you think you have food poisining in early days of pregnancy? a friend ate mussels, she is about 7 weeks pregnant, she has had a bit of vom and diarreha, should she contact the doctor??

Prob best to be on the safe side. Most food posioning will not have adverse effects on the baby. Listeria is dangerous but often produces no symptoms, and it's unlikely she's had that. Salmonella is only dangerous (IIRC) when it gets to the high fever and dehydration stage. HTH.

Agree with Berolina - your friend should see a doctor.
Same thing happened to me at 7 weeks pg whilst abroad last year, vom and diarrhoea for 2 days. Went for a scan at 8 weeks (this was in a private clinic abroad) and baby was fine. Hope it all goes well for her.

I had severe food poisoning with campylobacter from chicken when I was 7 months pg - the GP took it very seriously and came to my house on his day off to give me the right antibiotics to get rid of it. It didn't do me/ds any harm, but I would DEFINITELY get checked out asap. It's just not worth it not to, is it?
