Hysteroscopy: resecting fibroids

Anyone had this procedure before?

I've had op's before, but just wondered what anyone's experience of this was?

what exactly are you having done?
I've had a hysteroscopy- no GA or local- for investigations.
Are they removing fibroids this way?

I just wanted to know about recovery really, pain after...?

I have had a number of operations over the years; however, not when I have had DC. DC being looked after on the day of the op, wondered if this needed to be extended considering, they will be on Xmas hols when I have this done.

Well mine was day surgery under ga to resect one fibroid (5cm). I was in for the morning list but was last on that list and didn't get done til about 1.30 pm ish. The op lasted about 1/2 hour on the table, plus about 1 hour in recovery. Back up to the day surgery ward for tea and biscuits and then waiting for the surgeon to come and tell me what happened and to discharge me. Then hanging around until my paperwork and meds were done and waiting for my husband to pick me up around 5 pm. That evening I was pretty tired from the anaesthetic and general lack of sleep from the night before. I ate dinner and dozed in bed. I had a little bit of bleeding and mild-ish achey cramps. The meds they gave me were co codemol. I took one dose. It got rid of the ache but made me feel queasy and headachey. Paracetamol and ibuprofen worked just as well after that. I also had a weird throat feeling and taste in my mouth from whatever it is they use in sedation.

The next day I felt fine, really, up and about but being on the look out for symptoms but nothing occurred. The achey-ness subsided quickly. I was lucky as my procedure was a Friday so just had a quiet weekend.

I had this under a GA but was sheduled to stay in hospital overnight and to be honest, I did need it. This might have been due to my particular case though.

Pain wasn't too bad after, more cramps / aches really. Wasn't on heavy duty painkillers. I was so tired and had no appetite for the rest of the day. I remember being told I could only go home after having passed stools. The hospital signed me off for a week but really only needed a couple of days to be back on form.

It was a godsend for my fibroids; the little buggers bled constantly for 6 months and I was in agony the whole time but the op was brilliant. I hope it goes well for you

Be careful though op, I fell pregnant 6 weeks later!
