Projectile vomiting - from his nose!

Ds is now 3 weeks old, and I don't think I've had a day when I haven't done a load of washing. He has violent vomiting episodes at least once a day, when milk doesn't just come out of his mouth, but spurts out of his nose as well, travelling at huge speeds and landing about 2 feet from him. And it tends to be about half an hour or so after a feed rather than straight away. He's also had about 4 episodes of being very very muccussy - including one today. He gags and retches, contorting his little body and crying pitifully for about 30 minutes, and eventually brings up a bit of frothy, sticky milk/snot, and then sleeps off the effort.
Has anybody else had this? The snottiness makes me think it's not reflux, but I don't think it's a cold because in between these episodes his chest seems clear and he's very happy.
He's feeding really well, sleeping all night apart from waking for 3-4 feeds and alert at other times. Plenty of wet nappies, and lots of yellow poo, and he's put on 7 oz.
Do I just need to stop worrying and go and buy more clothes and sheets?

SOunds like reflux to me - only cause best friends baby had it and this sounds like what he did and have seen episode of baby whisperer and the poor little mite on there did it too!!

Baby whisperer changed his bottles to special ones that have like a valve in the teet and slept him on a type of cushion thing so his head was higher than his bottom and I think she gave him gaviscon mixed in with his milk (best friend did this also the gaviscon) - but take thim to the doctors if you are worried afterall that is what they are there for - if you fell like you are being a bit neurotic say to the doctor 'Oh its probably just me being neurotic' so even if you are he doesn't think you are barmy!!

My DD (now six months) started like this when she was around 3-4 months, coinciding with when I changed to bottle feeding from breast. She was quite chesty (had been since birth). She was sick all the time and did not put on much weight despite feeding well. She was otherwise very happy. The vomiting was nearly always preceded by coughing. The doctor said she was OK (no chest infection). I took her to a homeopath and a cranial osteopath because I was so worried and now she is fine. Of course, I don't know whether that is because she is a bit older or whether it was the osteopathy or the homeopathy but it probably will get better as he gets older. HTH. Please try not to worry! If he's gaining weight, he's fine! My DD now is getting lovely and chubby!

yep, ,y dd did this, nothing else apparently wrong, eventually sorted itself out, we kept her upright after feeds and tilted her cot up on a couple of biggish books to help
And dressed her in cheap clothes for few months... And took spare sets everywhere....

If he is full of mucus he could be swallowing it and then regurgitating the mix of this and milk from his stomach. Could be acid reflux or just a reaction to the mixture, combined with immaturity of the stomach valve, although I would have thought it would be happening pretty much every feed. Also the fact that he is putting on weight, thriving and otherwise happy is also a little inconsistent. Does he settle well at night ? Interestingly dd who was a mucusy newborn was subsequently diagnosed with reflux at 8 weeks, when she developed an ear infection because the regurgitation provides an area for bacteria to thrive. However her weight gain was quite slow after the intial weeks and she hated lying flat.

Try sitting him in a car seat/bouncy chair for half an hour or more after feeds, raise head of cot with books or rolled towels under mattress of moses basket and don't change his nappy for at least half an hour after feeding. Can you carry him around upright in a sling to see if that helps. If you notice him less than happy or if it persists perhaps speak to gp.

Thank you all - Im very scared of reflux because the only "cures" seem to rely on bottlefeeding and I really don't want tonot bf - it's one of the few things I'm really good at!
HV came today (I have a wonderful one -maybe the one wonderful one in the country). She took my concerns seriously but said it was too early to diagnose, and suggested much of what you lot have. She also weighed ds, who has put on 1lb 12oz in 10 days! So she suggested it couldjust be down to overfeeding as I obviously have lots and lots of milk.

my little one suffered from this too, we spent a whole year washing and changing and washing and changing. At least 5-6 times a day. In the end i came up with my own theory which either coincidently worked or definetly worked. Anyway i strongly beleive that my child has a cows milk allergy. Ever since switching to soya and then rice milk at age 1 he has been fine. You could try reducing your amount of dairy intact and see if it helps at all!!! Just a thought for you
