After a string of urine infections and generally being unwell since july consultant has decided to put DD on oestrogen cream as he thinks the cause of all her probs is that she doesn't produce enough oestrogen. Anyone have any info about this?

I am shocked!! So he wants to cover up one symptom with a risk of breast cancer and mess up her hormones at the age of THREE?? Would you give her the pill / HRT?? It's like bringing on her puberty.

If your DD has had recurring infections then it's obvious that her immunity is very low. Have you considered boosting it with probiotics? The best one around is bio-kult, any good multi-strain will be OK, just check the child dose.

You can also try homeopathy, cantharis perhaps.

Um, yes, she could go to see a homeopath, and put your faith in something that has never been proven to work, or she could use the cream the consultant gives, on the grounds tht he is a consultant and the chances are he knows what he is doing.

if you go to a homeopath, please see one who's also a doctor

'thinks the cause of her problems' so he isn't sure but is putting a 3 yo on hormones?

get a second opinion immediatly and while your waiting see a homeopath.

If your dd has had urine infections at the age of three then she needs proper investigations to see if there is any underlying cause and/or if her kidneys have been affected by the infections.

How were the infections diagnosed?

How was the urine specimen collected?

Has your dd had any of these tests: an ultrasound scan of her kidneys and urinary tract, her blood pressure checking, a blood test to check her kidney function, a scan called a DMSA scan to check for scars on the kidneys?

How were the infections treated, ie what antibiotics and for how long?

Has your dd been taking prophylactic antibiotics, ie a low dose of antibiotic, typically trimethoprim, given every night to prevent infections?

Thanks for info, dd reacted really badly to oestrogen cream so we have stopped on gps advice and are seeing consultant again in a couple of weeks. The infections were diagnosed by urine specimen sent off, and she was treated with trimethoprim and also another antibiotic I can't remember now, this went on for about three months before she got the all clear. she has had no real checks as when we went to consultant appointment the gp had sent the wrong test results and consultant said he had no evidence of any infection! I now have print outs of all her test results to take next time incase the gps results don't get there for next appointment. I will look into a homeopath how do I now they are good? Is there any kind of register or something?

Is her problem caused by incomplete separation of the labia?
