HELP! baby has very sore skin in neck folds - which cream?

My dd has very sore red raw looking skin in her neck folds. I am always very aware of keeping these 'hiding places' clean and dry and keeping a check on them every day. This seems to have crept up quickly (I only noticed it this afternoon) but possibly in the last day or so as my dh has done the last two days baths and hasnt done many before - despite me telling him to check and clean all the right areas this still seems to have happened. Can anyone recomment a cream or something to use other than obviously just keeping it clean and dry (which I am always weary of doing) I perhaps should have checked dd at these bathtimes as I normally would when doing them myself but hate to stand over dh like a school teacher telling him what to do! Anyway, Sudocream or drapoline i was thinking. Anyone know what works???? Need help quickly as i have 'opened' up her neck and blotted it with a tissue after wiping away gunk that hadnt been cleaned away by dh in bath. The tissue has watery blood like stuff on so is VERY red and sore.

Sudacreme works for my DD.

for sore skin, sudocream is always good.

I would also suggest that you bathe her less often - not getting those bits wet is the easiest way of keeping them dry, and babies don't really get dirty I don't think.

Mine used to get this, although in the hot weather when she was very small.

I tried all sorts. I found if you dip a cotton ball in talc and wipe along it - it will keep it dry. However, vaseline is also good to smear into the folds of the skin, to keep it from chaffing.

They can get thrush in their neck - DS got bad thrush under his chin when he was teething, it was the constant dribble! The only thing that cleared it up was canestan (ordinary variety - GP said it's fine for babies).

Is it really violently red, like tomato coloured? That's what DS's was like.

is sudocream ok to use if its weeping a bit??? we bath her every evening as shes a very messy feeder and it quite often dribbles down cheeks etc which is another reason why im weary of that area and perhaps why i feel the need to bath her every night

catbert - the talc on a cotton ball seems like a good idea for prevention once this is cleared up will give it a try.

mistletoegolightly - its weeping very slightly when blot it with a tissue. is very dark pink and shiny. i have sudocream, vaseline and drapoline. so can use either of those

If it is thrush sudocreme/vaseline etc will not help, in fact it may make it worse as they seal the fungus in next to the skin and stop it from drying out. You need an antifungicide element.

I don't mean don't try sudocreme first, but if it doesn't clear up within a day or two then do try canestan. I battled with DS's for a week before a GP friend told me what it was and it was gone 2 days after using the canestan.

HXH, we xed posts! Very dark pink and weeping sounds like thrush but see how it does with the sudocreme first.
