hello, my son has been crying now for over an hour, not normal crying just sobbing, but his temp is 40.8c is this high? we think it may be sun stroke, can you please let me know if this is too high, as I really should call the doc if it is, His eyes are rolling, and he keeps falling asleep but only for a few seconds

call your doc to be on the safe side

Beccarollover · 17/05/2004 21:09

Definitely ring doc or nhs direct

coddycodcod · 17/05/2004 21:10

have you calpolled him?

hercules · 17/05/2004 21:10

I'd take him to A&E if he's rolling his eyes.

Branster · 17/05/2004 21:12

this is a very high temperature , especially for a little one. call for a home visit from your local doctor on call ASAP!!!

mummysurfer · 17/05/2004 21:12

ring NHS direct, have you got the number?

foxinsocks · 17/05/2004 21:14

my daughter gets high temps like this and rolls her eyes back. Nurofen is better for bringing temp down. Do sponging now - lukewarm water on sponge/flannel over the body then dry with a towel (but don't wrap him up).

If you suspect sun stroke, take him to doc/A&E now cos it's very serious. If you think its an illness, give him the meds and sponge him to bring down temp. Give him loads of little sips of water as well.

give him calpol and nurofen, they both reduce fever (one is paracetamol, the other is aspirin so they can be taken alongside each other, unless your son is allercic to any of the ingredients). try and cool him off, by sponging some water from a damo flanel all over him (not to soak him in water, just to cool him off with a damp cloth, keep him out of drafts but in a cool, not cold room). see if you can offer him some liquids

foxinsocks, great minds....

popsycal · 17/05/2004 21:16

make sure the water is body temperature or he will start to shiver and it will raise his tem p higher

i would get some advice - defintiely - emergency docs or ring a&E - they really don't mind gving advice for little ones
