Has anyones child had this and been refered to a orthopeadic dr. If so what can they do about it, does it ever cause any long term damage?

Hello

My husband and I managed to dislocate our dd's elbow (she was about 17 mths old at the time). We decided to lift her up by her arms and give her a little swing and stupidly, stupidly, stupidly didn't realise that you shouldn't play that game with really little children (we do now!).

As soon as we put her down we knew that something really bad had happened. She was crying in a way i've never heard before and couldn't move her arm at all.

Rushed off to A&E and a nice doctor manipulated it back into place after dosing her up on ibuprofen and calpol. Sounds worse than it was - the manipulation took about 10 seconds.

We felt SO guilty but he said it's incredibly common. So common that they had a leaflet printed up about it. It has no long term effects. He said that it's so easy to do that sometimes a child will do it him/herself by swinging on something.

Anyway, hope this makes you feel better!
