banana skin and verrucas

kittyschristmascrackers · 11/12/2006 22:27

Ok I know banana skins are supposed to be fab at busting verrucas. So I have been putting them on one I've had for over a year and after a week no difference at all.
How long is it supposed to take before it starts to work?
Am I being too impatient or should I just accept the fact that nothing on this earth is ever going to get rid of the nasty thing? (short of chopping my foot off that is.)
I would love to hear of some of your banana experiences, ta

only one thing...let a verrucca run it's course and you will build up immunity to prevent possible future outbreaks. Treat it at all and you don't allow your body's defences to build up the immunity in time and so you are more prone to them again

Never treat children especially unless they become really painful to help them prevent getting them as adults by becoming immune

Sadly, there's always an exception to any rule!!!!!That's not very helpful, I know!

My DDhas 2 HUUUUGE ones on the heels of her foot.
They cause her a lot of pain and for about 2 months has not been able to walk properly, she walks on her tippytoes of the infected foot.
We have taken her to the Nurse, chiropodist and piedaitry (SP??) and once they reduced it, only for it to come back more aggressive a week later.
No one will touch it, normally i would be fine with this, but it is seriously hurting her, she cant even put her sock on with out a huge fuss and her legs are hurting now because of the way she is walking.
Ive tried using soloution, but her skin is too soft for me to file away the dead skin (plus there is no way she will let me touch it, she is 5) and we have just bought a Scholl freeze it off soloution, but that hasnt done nothing either.
Im dont know what to do

Nixz, see if you can find the thread on using banana skins. my computer won't let me do searches at the mo, but people were raving about them.

ok, thanks

Just been doing it with DD3 I was v . It has taken about 3 weeks but is vitually gone now. I believe that is usually 12+wks with Bazooka etc. I have to say that it was about 10-14 days before I noticed any difference.

I used the ripest banana I could find (I had heard black is best but the bananas I was using weren't actually black). I kept the same skin inteh fridge for 2-3 days. Cut a small peice of skin, and place on verucca flesh side down. Cover with plaster. Remove after 24hrs, clean with baby wipe and replace banana. I also filed it once or twice a week which is where I really started to see a difference.

I have to say I only tried the banana because of the pain DD£ was in using Bazooka. I figured I had nothing to loose. I really can't believe how well it has worked for us and if you had told me a year ago that she would be walking round with banana on her foot I would have PMSL

bundle · 12/12/2006 13:24

the Marigold clinic at the Royal Homeopathic hospital in London has had good results (2 friends I recommended go there had v longstanding veruccas disappear v quickly), you can get an NHS referral depending on where you live

kittyschristmascrackers · 12/12/2006 14:00

Thanks bundle
SMS so I should probably continue?
I have noticed that the skin is not so hard but has become much more raised. Is this what happened with your dd? Also I have never seen any black bits in the middle. I am guessing this is becasue the blooming thing is so deeply dug into my foot that the core is way beneath the surface.(yuk) God I REALLY hate this thing now.

Yes keep going. What I found was that the only black was from the banana skin.
And yes the banana raises the verucca rather than gouging a hole in the foot like Bazooka etc. As it raised above the surrounding skin the edge of the verucca seemed to seperate from the healthy skin a bit, so I could pick it away/file it. As it raises it is easier to file it away w/o filing the healthy surrounding skin away.

I think that if you have a deep pit in your foot from other treatments it may take a little longer than the 3 weeks as it has further to raise IYSWIM. I do think that if I hadn't used Bazooka for a week the banana would have worked much quicker.

kittyschristmascrackers · 12/12/2006 14:31

God, I've been using bazooka and the rest for a year now [fschock]. I filed it yesterday and it bled . Perhaps it's not really a verruca but an alien life form. Thanks for the tips, I shall persevere, after all I've got nothing to loose but the offending wart !!

The problems arising from using a banana for my dd are:

  1. there are 2 on the base of her heel that are very raised so walking on a banana skin will cause more discomfort.
  2. I cant file or 'pick' at verruca as she wont let me touch it AT ALL as it is v painful for her.
  3. Her skin is very moist and soft and a file doesnt do anything.
SlightlyMadSanta · 12/12/2006 17:47

Nixz - I assume that you havn't actually tried the banana yet - if I read your posts correctly. If this is the case I should say you have nothing to loose by giving it a go. The banana skin is also supposed to give relief by cushioning the foot although I can't comment on this as DDs is on the side of her toe. The banana goes really flat overnight anyway. Alternatively you could just use teh banana overnight - but I honestly think you will be fine through the day.

I don't think you have to file or pick it as I think iot would eventually seperate and fall off itself. This just accelerates the treatment.

I started the banana cos I hated seeing DD3 scream with the Bazooka & she was getting to the point of not letting me touch. Depending how old she is you could let her wipe away the banana crud herself. You may find that f you have a break from the painful stuff (beleieve me the banana is not painful) - she may let you file it after a ouple of weeks.

Didn't see this thread yesterday. DS' verrucas went within about 3 weeks (and that was from only using the banana skin at night because he refused to wear it during the day). As has already been said, they seem to rise and then they suddenly fell out! It was most bizarre. But it works!

kittyschristmascrackers · 13/12/2006 10:36

I really hope so , mine certainly seems to be risong up and is now sore to walk on.

www.bbc.co.uk/health/conditions/verrucas1.shtml

the above has good info...don't know how to link it on this site .

In a macabre sort of way, I'm hoping that one of my friends gets a verrucca so I can try this banana skin trick on them...it sounds facinating....from a purely medical investigative viewpoint !!

twickersmum · 21/12/2006 15:47

right, i am going away over new year but when i come back i am going banana-skin-tastic.
i will report back!
