saw ds was scratching his head today, i looked through his hair and couldnt see anything but then i ran this electric nit comb thing (it makes a buzzing noise and then you can hear it zap the nead lice as it encounters them) and it killed 7 of the bloody things

i cant see any eggs but having read up past threads these are supposed to be hard to spot anyway

my husband and i have checked each other and the zapper hasnt caught any on us, also have a 13 month dd and concerned she might have them

questions...

do i just continue using zapper on ds or do i need to do conditioner/nit comb thing as well or should i do chemical lotion just to be on safe side?

should i treat myself and my husband just to be on safe side?

dd is asleep at the moment - will check her in the morning if she has them what is best way to treat her - she doesnt have much hair on the sides but a bit more on top?

any advice on type of nit comb to buy?

Don't have any advice to offer but it seems you have the most up to date technology for the problem!

[desperately waiting for DS to get nits to test this wonder!]

I posted over on the other post - but some bits to add to your dilema.

My DD2 got headlice at 12mths - I noticed them whilst waiting to see the GP and picking them out!. Did ask GP he said don't use the treatments on baby hair - its too fine and could damage scalp. Advise to use conditioner and combing.

Use the treatment on DS and go through your hairs with conditioner

I'm sure a pharmacist said to me only to use the treatments if headlice present - they can get resistant otherwise.

I use a regular nit comb but also have a nitty gritty comb (google for website). Loads of people on here swear by the nitty gritty but neither I nor DH can get use to it.

When ds1 has nits, after the first attack with the electric nit comb, I checked him twice a day for two weeks with the regular nit comb - if I saw anything moving I zapped them with the electric comb. You start seeing the little ones hatch and as they are unable to move to start with you kill they with the electric zapper before they lay more eggs.

Check the rest of the family with the regular nit comb - if you don't see anything move then you probably aren't infected but might like to repeat this every so often. We did not use any chemicals but try to comb the children weekly.

I use nitty gritty comb and we have always have nit problems BUT we have discovered what keeps them down and bear in mind the quest has been long!White vinegar final rinse it is brilliant and cheap and it truly does the job!
