Anyone have a PICC line?

Had one inserted Monday, discharged yesterday and today the area is itchy as anything! Could this be a sign of anything? Wasn't given any information just told DN will be out once a week to flush it and change dressing.

I don't have one but I care for them in my job and I would say it sounds normal after insertion....as long as it's not weeping and horrendously painful it'll be fine...just keep your eye on it over the next few days. X

Ah thank you :) it's not weeping or sore just itchy around the site, the tube is filled with blood though my clamp must have come undone under my jumper today . X

I had one. Where is itching? I am sensitive to the tape they use in hospital and they had to order some special micropore dressings. When they took off the original my arm was covered in a rash.

If it's anywhere else you need to call the hospital.

If the tube is filled with blood it needs flushing anyway or it will clot off. Looks like they used iodine to clean the skin if it's yellow, that gets itchy when it dries, I think you should go get it flushed and re dressed

It is :( my own bloody fault I didn't realise it had unclamped. It's a yellow gel patch ? My surgery refuses to deal with the line and DN isn't coming out until Thursday so I'll try get hold of them.

The yellow gel is anti bacterial - you may be allergic. As poster above says, the blood will clot in the line and could end up having to be changed, so it does need looking at soon. Do your district nurses have a number you could ring to ask for a visit?
