Has anyone had an angiogram? What was it like?
Did you stay in hospital or was it a day case?
Ant after effects?

TIA

My mum is 57 and had an heart angiogram at Southampton last week, she also has aortic stenosis.
The angiogram she said was quite simple, she was there most of the day.. they gave her some morphine whilst doing the procedure, i know beforehand they had said they will give her something to help her relax. She was totally fine afterwards and just told to take it easy for 48 hrs.

She is booked in for a valve replacement the week after next, we are of course all worried as it just seems like such a big scary operation.
It's only been around 6 weeks since a diagnosis out of the blue so a lot to take in.

The overnight stay advice...
Someone else who had an angiogram just before dh was found to be in such a bad state that he was kept in until the surgery could be performed. Therefore, he needed his overnight stuff. As my dh's main coronary artery was 'only' 95% blocked, they let him out.
A word of advice.
If they do decide to refer him on to another consultant, and then to surgery, stress that he will take a cancellation. Dh said that he would take any cancellation after Christmas, (which was 2 weeks away, and he wanted to see the kids) and had his surgery 31 December.

Thanks everyone. The angiogram is Thursday so will let you know how it goes if I can get him there
I really can't see him agreeing to open heart surgery, not after just having been through gruelling radiotherapy. But we'll see!
Thanks for all the replies. They have been extremely helpful Thanks

Wolpertinger I should have researched, I didn't realise. To be honest, with my DH having 2 stents and a recent angiogram, I just don't want to google too much as it puts the frighteners on me Grin

Well I didn't really mean my post to be interpreted quite like that. Thanks Hmm

Funny because I'm not shocked and actually I don't expect them to be individually tailored. What I was trying to do was support the OP in the context of this thread and give an explanation of why the letter might say one thing and mean another without writing an essay.

Apparently no good deed goes unpunished.

Well I'm taking dad in today for his angiogram. He's ok, a bit nervous understandably.I think there could be alot of waiting around which doesn't help when your nervous but we will be ok!
I will report back later.

Do hope it goes/has gone OK.

Well, still waiting! We got there for 10am and a lovely Dr said dad was first on the list, but as they were doing bloods, tests etc he missed his slot Hmm
So now he's still waiting,
Turns out they are going in through the groin and he needs to lie down for an hour before he comes home,
I've just come for a coffee, really hope he's gone in by now,

LavenderRain · 03/12/2015 16:32

He will be ready fo collection at 7ish apparently,
He's fine, a bit of low blood pressure but has had a sandwich and is sitting up,
They say he needs a new valve and has 2 blocked arteries Sad
He said it didn't hurt but his groin is very sore,

thanks for updating us. Sounds like it will need the bypass op (I was hoping it could be done with angioplasty) but they can do so much for him with it. Very best wishes - and keep pestering to ensure he gets on the lists and moves up them!

Roussette · 03/12/2015 18:41

Good to hear it went OK.

LavenderRain · 03/12/2015 20:16

He's homeSmile
He needs a new valve and the artery (RCA?) has 90% stenosis,

He's happy for the time being, we wait further news!

Thanks for the update - glad it went well, and that he has a proper diagnosis now.
Update on my dh - he was outside today, bricklaying again.

LavenderRain · 03/12/2015 21:07

TheEx Grin that's great!
